Following on from a Light Bicycle road disc wheel thread I'm looking for some advice on which way to get the wheels laced.
Are they benifits of either 2 X or 3 X or is it just preference on looks. I've never had wheels built to my choice and it's also my 1st road bike.
I also have the option of 2 rim sizes 1st is 24mm tall with external width of 23mm and internal width of 15.4mm.
The 2nd option is 35mm tall and U shaped with external width of 25mm and internal width of 18mm . I'll be fitting 25mm wide tyres but would like the rims to be suitable for a range of 23-28mm tyres, I don't want the tyre profile to be adversely affected but also want the tyre to protect the rim a little.
depending on your spoke count, 3x may be hard to achieve as the gap round the rim between holes goes up ?
It all depends on what angle the spokes are entering the rim. 3x can have too sharp an angle with smaller rims or bigger hubs. Deep section rims are effectively smaller. I dare say there's some guidance on what's acceptable somewhere but mostly its down to experience.
Spoke count for front and rear will be 28, I hover around 83kgs so don't want to go as low as 24 and risk the wheels not surviving.
LB will be doing the complete build and have said I can have either 2X or 3X.
