Hi, looking for a hard wearing fast tyre with decent off road grip, but not too draggy on the way to the trails. Needs to be 26" and not wider than 2.1".
Cheers guys.
I used some 1.9" Kenda Small Block 8's which I thought were quite good for what you describe.
I've got Maxxis larsens on one of my hardtails and they roll well on tarmac and are a lot grippier than you'd think off road. I hardly ever ride on the road though so not sure how long they'd last with lots of tarmac use.
Small Block 8, based on my experience of the CX version on my mixed commute.
Panaracer Fire XC, perhaps.
Maxxis aspen.
Kenda Smallblock 8 is always the answer to this question
Schwalbe smart sam
Thanks for the feedback guys. Was thinking that maxxis tyres would be a good bet as they are hard wearing. But i'm also going to check out the kenda tyre.
I really like the smallblock but never got on with it on the front. Just trying a Specialized Captain just now, it's got a fairly continuous central thread so it's quick, but good knobbles and bite for soft stuff, seems good so far.
Any tyre for the use you described is going to be compromised in its ability of doing road or offroad.
How far are you riding to the trails? 4-5 miles I would prob just get a decent offroad tyre and use the 4-5 miles there and back as a warm up / warm down pootle.
It's about 10 miles to the trails, then another 10 miles on the trails and then back home.
I realise that it's always going to be a compromise, so i'm just going to look for a hard wearing tyre.
Took a look at a maxxis crossmark over the weekend, thought they looked up to the job, so i'm probably going to check them out
If it's not too muddy maxxis crossmarks have done me ok. Just let the psi down to 30ish and sound.
Slant 6 on the front SB8 behind works for me
smart sam on the front will end your life prematurely. fact.
on the back and your face will be hurting from the size of your grin.
jus sayin.
