Got a family holiday booked for end of the summer and hoping we'll be able to make it there.

Will have a couple of mornings or evenings to ride at Inners and Golfie.... Probably 3hrs each ride.

What are the best track to ride? Riding a Nukeproof Mega and prefer natural tech type riding

Thanks

golfie, any of it that is open (some bits closed for logging but only 3 or4) trailforks will show you what's around.

I'm no expert but I would avoid Flat White, not natural or tech imo.

Trailforks is essential if you not been golfie before ... and almost all trails are steep ... but good

It's traditional to start with New York, New York then do Repeat Offender or New Wolf then maybe 3G or Big Baw. Feed the Pony is great but is out on a limb and has a 25min push up to boot.

From the Tweed Vally Trail Association facebook page yesterday.

Caberston (Golfy) Trail Closures

So, many of you will have seen signs and barriers at The Golfy over the last few days. Hopefully the following adds to/gives a bit more info than what's up there.

In short, everything North of NYNY is closed for the foreseeable. That's all the Wolves, and Loose Women. Closures are 7days a week, for up to 3months or so.

Please follow the guidance and info on the signs - there's info at the main entrance to the forest beside the Golf Clubhouse, as well as at the top of the hill at the start of NYNY.
There's going to be live felling operations throughout the period, with heavy machinery on the hill and in the trees. Every time someone decides to ride through the work-site, they need to stop and reassess. This just means the whole job takes longer, and there's less sympathy for protecting the trails!!

The good news is that we have been in discussion with FLS and the forestry contractor, and have agreed with @forestryandlandscot that we will look to get the lower Wolves area up and running as soon as possible after the works has finished.
After discussing with the contractor, they're going to try to minimise machine movement on the trails, so New Wolf is (hopefully) going to be in ok condition post-felling.
Unfortunately it looks like Loose Women may be too loose to survive, due to the type of felling and steepness of ground in the area around the trail.

Hope this helps people understand the picture a bit more, and apologies it's a bit late coming!

Also worth noting that Glentress is due to open tomorrow 😃

Angry Sheep at inners. Not because it's tech, but because it's fantastic. TBH a lot of inners is just bewildering with choice, so it's sometimes a good idea just to not worry about what trail you do, since they're really all good and stressing about riding the ideal line will just distract you. Too Hard For EWS is a peach if you like rocks and techy, very different from most of it.

I absolutely love Community Service at the golfy, it's short but there's a lot in it. Haven't ridden Waterworld for quite a while now so not sure what condition it's in, it was getting pretty fierce but it is so good. Jawbone into Walk Or Burn is brilliant too.

(New Wolf and others up there are closed just now)

Thanks for the replies and advise.
Got the trailforks app to help me around.
Is Golfy signposted like Inners or a bit more self reliant?

Good news about glentress, was wanting to take the little one there

The majority of Inners isn’t signposted, not a thing at the Golfie is. Worth doing a bit of homework on the trails before going

Its absolutely gutting that the wolf trails are out of action after so much work went into them. I mean looks..

Also Greg's Jolliffes or whatever is nice.

Was on the uplift at inners last week and I actually preferred Green Wing to Angry Sheep.

I think you could easily spend 2 days at the Golfie and not ride a bad trail. We rode wolf of wall street last week as we knew it was the last chance due to the felling. What a trail and on my limits . As others have said Start on NYNY then back up up for repeat offender and finish on either community service or Greg Joliffe. Id avoid flat white as its blown out and pretty shite now. If you want to get the Golfie and inners experience then head for Feed the Pony and ride from the top to the bottom , Get a coffee in the Caberston cafe at the bottom then head over the road and bridge and pick up the uplift road into Inners and take your pick (deer hunter into Cresta gives you the best leangth of trail).
Enjoy its the best area of trails anywhere in the uk IMO.

If you can afford it then you might want to consider hiring a local guide to show you the best stuff. Some of these guys won't have had any work over the last few months but will know which trails are running really well just now and what's new. It's not essential and plenty of people will say all you need is Strava and Trailforks but it's a good time to help each other out if we can afford to.

Looking forward to heading up at the end of the month - cannot wait!

Presumably Thornielee is still out of bounds due to the forestry work?

As a local, this is a great idea. I've guided loads of mates around (for coffee!), being able to string together a loads of brilliant trails and tailor them to what kind of riding you prefer is priceless.

How techy is the Golfie generally?

I've never been and I don't mind a bit of tech - I'm happy on stuff like Top Chief at Fort Bill or Five Year Plan, Mast of Zorro, Ho Chi Min at GT but really steep stuff like Ponduro is a bit too much.

I feel like I'm missing out, but don't want to head over there and be out of my depth either.

You'll be fine, just start on the easier trails (some are a bit easier than you've described IMO). The tough ones do get seriously hard though.

Just don’t start with Nae Spleen. I needed a sit down moment to myself after that!

Hmmm. Well, I'd say there's not much that is less steep than Ponduro. But id also say Five Year Plan is equally as steep as Ponduro.

I'd aim for New York, New York then Repeat Offender, then Community Service, then Final Fling.

I would say Feed the Pony, but the options to get there are a little steeper.

Given what you've said I'd stick with Innerleithen, plenty there to step up from GT and some nicely in between. I'm thinking angry sheep, green wing are lovely and flowy. Alistair Lees and Quarry Enduro - two parts to each - are nicely challenging. Then there are the DH trails from make or Brake to Matador\Cresta and Gold Run - by christ Gold Run is steep at the bottom 🙂 Plus too many others to mention.

Or you could just zip along the fire road to the bottom of the climb/push of course

Wow! You’ve got it good up there, Trailforks is bewildering, how do you even ride those corners? So local people just build these I always thought Innerleithen was a trail centre just better than the ones I’m used to.

What’s the accommodation like up there, geared towards biking? I’ve stayed a few biker friendly places in wales that have always blended cheap and cheerful with secure bike parking and decent showers.

Really green eyed at the moment.

Rich, get an uplift day booked, angry sheep entrance is just along from drop off, means a wee pedal at the bottom to get back on track, but worth it.

If ye don't fancy it, AS, green wing and a salmons journey are all close to each other and none of them steep.

I'll echo what Nobeerinthefridge says. Get on the uplift! I'll say it again... Get on the uplift!

True that once you've rode angry sheep its a wee bit of a pedal to get back to the main lines that take you back to where the shuttle busses load up. But it's only that, just a wee pedal along to caddon bank or keep going past and I think you can take the lower part of gold run back to the busses. Its really isn't much pedaling tho, I ride a 170mm travel enduro bike set up single speed 34-14 without a dropper and saddle permanently down low and pedal back from angry sheep.

The rest of the trails are so worth exploring with the uplift. It really is a maze of trails. I've been riding at inners since 2002 and I still find bits I've never rode.

Options for everyone, dh bike or enduro bike or short travel full susser.
I'm booked onto the uplift tomorrow. Absolutely love it.

If you're not on the uplift then the best thing to do at the bottom of angry sheep is to go back up- it's got a bit of a "mushroom pie" thing going on where the climb back up doesn't seem anything like long enough compared to the descent.

yeah northwinds absolutely right. Without the uplift you can do laps of angry sheep and green wing and it really doesnt feel like all that much climbing for the amount of descending. Sometimes after angry sheep its tempting just to pedal back up for another lap rather than ride down to the busses

Been following this thread with interest as I'm moving up to Edinburgh in a few weeks. Ridden at Inners/Glentress for a couple of days and had a great time but I'd be very keen to either meet up with some others for a tour or get a local guide for a day of exploration. Recommendations would be welcome. I promise I won't slow you down...
