I'm looking for a towbar bike carrier for the car.

I need something that'll take three roadbikes or two mtb's. Not looking to spend a fortune but want something decent that'll be up to trips to the Alps etc.

What should I be looking for?

I have fairly recently purchased the "new" Thule Velospace XT 3 bike carrier.  It's good and tilts far enough to allow me to open the tailgate on the Berlingo - is easy to tilt and put back in place.  Although it has torque limiter knobs on the frame clamps - I don't trust them.  Seems to be hellish tight.  To avoid clamping my carbon frame I have two choices :

1) Clamp around the seat tube where it should be reasonably protected from crushing by the dropper post

2) I have also purchased the Thule 982 bar which allows me to clamp that bar rather than the frame.

Haven't decided which I prefer yet, but 2) is clearly the lowest risk option.
