Hi,
I’m scratching my head wondering what size centerlock lock-rings to order for some Hope 20Five RS4 CX wheels.
It is QR but also has some adapters for Thru-Axels.
(Last time I had some Kinesis V4 wheels that needed a standard lock ring on the front but a larger bore oversize 15/20 mm centerlock ring to get over the rear axel - took me 3 weeks to get one from Germany as they were still new.)
Just get the bigger ones - they'll work with whatever axle you have now or in the future.
I use the std narrow ones, it's more down to the tool you own than the ring. I have an x-tools one that works well.
Thanks guys.
I’ll order the large ones as a spare just in case... and check my lock ring tool.
I have an old HT2 BB spanner but rather use my torque wrench. Might try the X-tools one now.
Cheers.
Just ordered a set of 15/20mm lock rings and a deeper larger cassette tool that has a 1/2 drive, also fits my torque wrench after using a socket over my older unit. ‘Should’ clear the axel ends compared to my old cassette tool.
Update:
I fitted a standard Shimano center lock ring to the front.
The rear, I used an oversize 15/20mm lock ring. Literally no gap with the standard center lock splines pushing on the axel.
Thanks for the advice. Glad I ordered a spare over size lock ring. Fitted in seconds.
I'm probably bring think, but are you running QR or thru axle on the rear?
I’m running QR on the rear (it’s my Dad’s bike Plug 5 steel with 135mm OLD).
The axel is almost the same size as the internal size of the lock ring by 0.25mm according to my vernier callipers.
Once he destroys this bike I’ll convert it to Thru-Axels using 12/15 adapters.
