I'm looking for a short travel full sus bike or frame but not really sure what to go for.

Current bike is an Epic but fancy something different, needs to be up to riding XC and the odd endurance race as well as regular riding on local trails and the likes of Afan/Cwmcarn.

Looking for 120mm travel at most and frame only would work as I could transfer everything over from the Epic.

I really like the look of the Pivot Mach 429SL but it’s a bit pricey. Any other suggestions?

The Pivot really is very, very good... I’ve been riding one for a year, and it properly sold me on 29ers

the new SC blur looks good too though.

I bought a Pivot 429SL from Classifieds on here a while back. From a chap who worked for Pivot. It's my fave bike, just so quick and capable. Makes me smile. Recently replaced all the bearings to stainless, any questions about the frame and I can tell you. I have stripped and pampered it several times, it's very well made.

I'm watching this thread with interest as I'm in the market for a new bike and I'm not wanting to hijack the thread, but unfortunately there is no way I'll be able to demo any of these bikes, so could someone please try and explain the difference in handling/performance between a bike with say 120mm-ish travel vs a bike with 140mm-ish travel??

Scott Spark - very impress with my RC, get the 120mm version and I reckon you’d really enjoy it.

Selling this Trek top of range full carbon superfly SL9.9

As title, why spend 6k + on a new top of range XC race bike, when you can have this for a 1/3rd of the cost

I built this up mid last year (2017) from a brand new frame that was surplus to requirement by someone who had deceased, the frame is a 2015 top of the range Trek Carbon superfly 9.9sl and weighs about 4.4lbs, size 17.5” (Medium) I have basically ridden this bike since mid last year for XC duty’s and put around 500 miles on it (as my strava says) below is a list of the spec I built it up with all new components. Total bike weights about 10.2 kg or just under 23lbs

Forks 2017 Rock shock Sid RL 15mm boost axel and tapered steerer

Rear shock Rock shock monarch RT3

Wheels handbuilt by LBS American Classic hubs 110×15 front 142×12 rear on to DT Swiss XR331 tubeless XC light weight rims using Sapim D-Light spokes, these are 1500g

Full Sram XX1 11 speed drivetrain inc XX1 Carbon Cranks with crank boots and 32t oval absolute black chain ring

Sram Level LT brakes with KCNC lightweight 160/140 floating rotors

Eastons top of range EC90 Carbon seat post with Prologo scratch saddle

FSA SLX Carbon flat bars 700mm wide and 9deg back sweep with ritchey foam grips and Zipp service course 75mm x -25 deg stem

currently set up with Specialized ground control 2.1 tubeless tyres

Pedals not inc

there is plenty of helitape so all VGC

I’m looking for around £2000 collected, (Huddersfield) would consider posting, and always open to offers (but not stupid ones) as this bike would cost around £6k + to build, so its a cheap full suss XC lightweight bike for you XC racers

If you didn't already have one, I'd say an Epic 🙂 The Anthem must be worth a look though and nobody seems to have a bad word to say about the Spark. You do seem to pay a bit of a premium for the "ridden by Nino" cachet, but it's got to be worth a look.

Orbea Oiz  fantastic xc/endurance bike. Really efficient pedalling bike and super sharp steering. Has routing for a dropper too if needed which I thought was a nice design touch.

I have a 2018 model Oiz, bought it to replace a hardtail.Hardly ridden it though and am considering parting with it and reducing down to just 1 bike.

Specialized S-works Epic

Why?

Well it's the only one out of those above that handles two water bottles inside the triangle. Essential for ride of epic proportions.
