I've got a SEAT Altea XL that we already have Thule roof bars for. I now want to buy a roof carrier to carry my Giant Anthem on.

The Anthem downtube is quite thick ovalised/almost square in construction, so will this limit what I can get? Also how are they on security, do any of them truly lock the bike to the rack?

Also is it better to go for one that holds the bike by the down tube, or one that takes the front wheel out and uses the fork to secure the bike?

For now I only need 1 carrier, but ideally it needs to be able to be mounted along side a roof box. In the long run I may end up getting another roof carrier.

What to go for? Ta

Thule 591? I use one to carry my Pitch on my Leon and its been great. Got it last year and have done hundreds of miles with it with no problems. You can lock the arm on it but I wouldn't trust it against thieves though..

Check with someone who has an Anthem, but I can't see a problem with the downtube and a 591, which is the only one I'd consider.

Just to balance the two opinions above I've got Atera Giro AF rack and never had any issues. Santa Cruz Heckler/Cove Handjob/On-One Inbred/Merida Speeder bikes have all been on at one time or another. Used on an A4 Estate with roof box plus two bikes occasionally.

I've got an Anthem and use the 591 which is fantastic. I do double check it when I stop to fill up but haven't had a problem. Try fordonlineparts for deals on them.

Is that a carbon Anthem?

There's fuss about clamping carbon frames in them in a 591, isn't there?

I have both Atera Giro AF and Thule 591 racks.

The Thule is in a different league to the Atera (in a good way)
