I'm looking at getting a Scott Genius plus frameset and working out how to dress it properly. Obviously need some wheels and I'm looking to build on shimano hubs but am stuck with the rims. I've always been very happy with Mavic but they have yet to address the trendy widths. Should I stick with what I know and get a 30mm rim or look elsewhere? I have a fatbike so don't need anything monster truck, and am also happy with my 650b "skinny" wheels for XC. This bike will be aimed at trail centre use, mainly Wales with occasional trips to Swinley if I fancy a bouncy weekend there but will usually take the hardtail.
Thanks all

Good point, I definitely don't want carbon rims on this bike. Nothing against carbon in general, just not here 🙂

I started a thread recently about plus wheels and it seemed to be the consensus that you want 35mm internal width as a minimum.

That's what I'm gonna go for, the Hope 35W wheelset looks the most promising option.

Sadly Hope still don't do Centerlock so are off the cards, hence needing to build some up on XTR hubs. Also not a fan of that infernal clicking!

Thanks all, are WTB and Spank rims any good? I'm completely new to both brands and want to make sure I'm going the right way.

I've been running Spank Oozy wheels for over 2 years now. I'm very impressed with their strength and how effective trey are at reducing punch flats.

The hub bearings have been pretty good too only recently felt the need to change them.

With the regular offers the CRC that have its hard to recommend anything else.

Just to update in case anyone finds this in future. I got DT Swiss XM 551 40mm in the end. Tubeless went up easy and they give a great shape to the 2.8 tyres. They were a bugger to build due to the two layers and requirements to use squorx nipples and washers but once complete seem perfect 🙂
Thanks again for the advice all, gave me the confidence to go proper wide!
