I've just sold my road bike ,now I dont have a cheap bike to do local errands, however, I have got most of a 26" HT here that could be built up, the only large thing missing is the front fork.
It had these on before:

Thats still an option, though the idea of a rigid fork appeals, as this bike wont be used off road much. Having bought a rigid fork before, and finding it was the totally wrong length for the bike geometry, I really would like some help in choosing which front rigid fork to buy. Needs to be for 100mm travel geometry, 9mm QR, 1 1/8 steerer and disc brake. Carbon would be nice, though not essential.
Any pointers?
Thanks
Alan.

You would need around 440 - 450mm Axle to Crown rigid fork. Exotic carbon are good for the money.

If it's any use, I've got an old set of manitou blacks that I think meet your requirements. They've not been used for at least 8 years!
Will have to track them down in the mancave but you can have them for £not much? Pm me if you want me to find them.

Yup, 440 mm is what is generally considered right for a 100mm fork.

Or you could go for a 420mm and fit a 27.5 wheel in there, or a 29 (those Exotic forks have a shallow crown so would take a fat tyre, but that can be a tight fit for some tyre/fork combinations). That's what one used to do to convert a 26er suspension bike into a 69er rigid, in the says before 27.5.

I've been swapping a set of Surly forks (447mm AC IIRC) between various frames for the past 11+ years. The XC forks from Identiti look pretty similar, I'd consider them. Less bling, less attractive to thieves, still do the job fine.

The 44.5 version of this is in stock. Almost identical to the Shimano Pro XCR 445 that I've got. Nice fork.

I put a set of these on my now rigid 26" hardtail. It's a great pub bike and has been off-road a few times. The A-C seems right for the frame and it replaces a 100mm rockshock.

As for length, yes, 440-450 mm is what you're after. At the shorter end are things like the On One steel things, at the longer end things like Surly 1x1 and Orange F8 (both about 453mm I think)

*Stealth ad*
I have some Singular Gryphon forks (like these) that I'm about to put up for sale, which are 445mm long (with a 55mm offset, which speeds up the steering without making it twitchy like a steep head angle would)

Thanks for the replies so far.
What about these:

What is the difference in wheel size?
I would presume a 26" wheel would fit in fine in a 27.5 fork, or am I badly deluded?
The 26 is 425mm, the 27.5 is 445mm.

Kinesis rigid forks are great and don't cost an arm and a leg used Bonty carbon few years back good on road but very flexy off road yet the rigid alloy ones were great off road don't make them anymore.

I used those exotics- not the lightest, but very trustworthy, mine got more hammering than they were probably counting on and then Scotroutes bought them off me and used them for about a million miles I think, they might still be going.

I did have some lighter ones but tbh I struggled to trust them
