Myself and my girlfriend have these brakes on both our bikes - Magura Mt Trail
I recently ordered a x4 pack of front pads and a pack of x4 rear pads form Uberbike, they are the white ones which are race matrix I think. Unfortunately they are awful! I'm a little annoyed as that was about £60 but we can't bear using them. Problem is they don't brake particularly well but the main thing is the noise, they squeal at first then go through to more of a ringing sound if you have to pull them for any longer than a quick dab. They are unbearable to ride with this noise as it is so loud, leaves you with the ringing continuing in your ears for the next day.
First - Has anyone any solutions for fixing this? I hate wasting things so would rather try find a fix than just get rid and buy new.
Otherwise, can anyone recommend some good pads for these? We live in Norway and when we're back in the UK it is up north/Scotland so often ride in the wet if that makes any difference.
Cheers!
I have been using Nukeproof semi-metallic pads for Shimano brakes for a few years. Recently bought a bike with MT5's and bought the same pads. They seem to work very well and no squealing.
I just use Magura genuine pads in mine with no issues, I’ve heard that a bit of copper slip on backs of pads can help with noise.
What pads were you using before? I've mixed compounds on the same rotors before (organic and then sintered) and they were noisy in the dry and in the wet.
Our MT5's have had UberBike white Race Matrix and super cheap Aztec pads in, after we wore out the Magura pads that came with.
The Aztec's wore quickly but bit hard (they were the 4-pad sets).
The Racematrix white ones, like all our other bikes, are silent, good power and wearing well.
How did you bed them in?
