I cant offer a balanced opinion really, but I would say I reckon the Zesty looks nicer but I recently bought an EX9 09 and cant praise it enough, their stunning to ride 🙂

Couldn't say what the Zesty's like, but I have an '08 EX8 and it's superb. I've just fitted QR15 lowers to the forks and that's made it even better, if LBS will swap before you buy I'd highly recommend the upgrade.

Only way to really tell is to try both, off-road if possible.

I test rode a zesty 514 and a spicy 516 at the weekend. When the guy was setting up the shock i commented on how soft it felt but he said that when you climb it sits back into its travel for max traction over bumps and by jove it did! the thing climbed like a mountain goat! On the rock gardens and the jumpy bits it was extremely plush and IMO out-performed the longer travel spicy. It just felt so nimble... great bike.

cozzy, i could've tried the fuel but i didn't like the narrow bars - can't understand why they don't put 680's it. If i had the money burning a hole in my pocket i'd definitely be tempted. It was a harrogate - based bike shop (not sure of the name) doing the demo at stainburn trails near leeds and they're having another one in 3 weeks time if that's any use?

i'd say trek has a lot more dealers so any warranty issues would be easier to fullfil, i've got an EX8, not that there has been any issues though!

Timraven - Where did you get the QR15 lowers from or fitted, and how much? I read in a bike mag a while back that Mojo where going to provide this but not seen anything advertised anywhere.

Oh yeah, and to stay on topic...I've had a Fuel EX8 for nearly a year now and rate it highly 😉

Another vote for the Trek EX, I got one recently one and it's just great fun to ride - quick, pretty light, well balanced, great on singletrack.

Must admit though that its a shame they don't come with 15m QR forks as standard, I might have to save up for the upgraded lowers mentioned above.

Hi All

I see my dilly dallying has cost me a £200 increase in price on both these models since the start of the year.

Anyone now the cheapest place ?

Id be interested on more info on price and where to get the QR15mm lowers from also

Cheers

I got the lowers from LBS £130 plus a wheel of course. Fitted them myself, too tight to buy decals tho extra £15 to advertise Fox?

Trek and LaPierre are both at the Bikeradar demo days. Well, they're definitely at the Glentress one in a couple of weeks so I assume they're at the others.

TRy http://www.torico.co.uk/, my gf got her Zesty from there, it was a bit cheaper than the other places we looked plus she haggled a few goodies to go with it. They got Lapierre Demo's coming back in soon according to the website, I think you can try them in the uk bike park as well 🙂
