At the moment I’m not wanting to throw a fortune of cash at bikepacking kit, so which of these would be most versatile. A seat-pack or a handlebar harness, I already have a gas tank bag and a Wildcat ocelot frame bag.

Wife is possibly needing more spine surgery this year so it will be for just an overnight when able to get out so not a massive amount of kit to be carried

Seat packs seem to take more gear?

I tried a bar bag on my last bike pack and while it worked perfectly my mate seemed to get mutch more crammed into his seat pack.

I'd think the effects on handling would be negible once you get used to one.

Seat pack.

you can strap any dry bag onto the bars without a harness.

I reckon it's easier to "make do" with a drybag and straps as a bar bag than to make a stable, capacious saddle bag. If I was only going to buy one, I'd therefore go with the seatpack.

However, I don't use a frame bag.....

My experience is that you get what you pay for.  😉
