It's for my mate who lives a long way away and I will get a phone call about everything that goes wrong and creak that his new bike will develop!
Depends on how long his piece of string is.
The brakes are a safer bet on the BeOne...
Merlin. Better brakes (by a shed-load), better shifters/mechs.
APF

Merlin. Shimano BB and brakes will be more trouble free IME than the GPX and Avid on the Whyte.
Those XC30s on a 29er on the Whyte is a bad choice. Lots of twanging.
Beone looks the best bet. I'm sure there are better choice out there. I'd be recommending a Boardman at that price, hell even the Voodoo Bizango:
His C2W voucher doesn't work in Halfords.
Cube Ltd from Leisure lakes then?
Oh. I thought it was going to be a list of expensive niche bobbins with "Orange 5" somewhere in it... 😉 😆
