at the moment I have a company citroen dispatch which will be going back.
I have had a berlingo and a Renault kangoo 1.5dc, vivaro, transit custom
the thing is I sit slightly bow legged and my left knee rests on the gear lever surround, and its so uncomfortable it drives me crackers.
does any one know which van, modern or older that doesn't have the gear console in the way and will still take 3-4 bikes?
im looking for a smaller/mid size, not vito/vivaro/transporter size.
thanks everyone in advance
I’ve literally just advertised my Kangoo on gumtree.
Pretty much the same length as a golf but able to take both our bikes with the wheels on, plus all our road trip gear with no problems.
I vinyled over the windows to hide the bikes and removed the back seats. There’s loads of little storage pockets for stuff plus cargo points in the back. It’s an odd little van/car crossover but pretty much perfect for daily driver/ bike van duties.
My ads here if anyone’s interested. Going cheap: Here
Which model Dispatch? We've had them all, and the newest shape is better than the previous one for LH leg room / places to rest your clutch foot. The extra short version is mid way between short and long new Berlingo so might be a good shape for bikes.
I think there are differences in the centre console / gearlever setup between some of the different variants of new Berlingo / Partner / Combo - one might be better than others.
What is the Nissan NV200 like? Good size and also classes as car derived van so better for speed limits.

The purely van versions won't. Pretty much anything bigger than a Fiesta van is over the 2000kg. From Google.
The definition of a car-derived van is given in the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (c27). Car derived vans are designed to weigh no more than 2 tonnes when loaded and are based on car designs, or the vehicle is built from a platform which has been designed to be built as a car or a van
Anyhow OP, anything designed with 3 seats in mind, which includes Berlingo sized things, (though they are definitely more 2.5 seats) has the gear stick on the dash because it needs the extra floor width.
had a vw caddy hire van over the weekend, such a comfortable van, 52miles to gallon, 70-90mpn on motorway was so smooth.. a pleasure to drive.
long wheel base version may fit bikes better
Nv200 is 2000kg gvw. I didn't believe it either! Guess it actually depends if it also says car derived van on the V5.
Caddy maxi, drives more like a car than a van but will easily fit 4 bikes, possibly 5 with front wheels off & long enough to sleep in the back. I've heard the pre 2013 1.6tdi had injector issues , mines a 63 plate and no problems so far with 50000 on the clock. 5 seaters seem harder to find but the rear seats are split 2/1 and can be removed in minutes or folded forward when not needed

I apologise mick_r, I too am really surprised by that!
Amazing it has any payload 🙂
Can somehow carry about 700kg - a chunk of running gear and floor pan is derived from Micra so guess fairly lightweight.
@ pothead does the caddy max have a non dash gear console? otherwise its a no go
@ mickR im not sure which model the dispatch is, its a 68 but has no model name on the back?
@slowrider ist the one you are talking about a 4 wheel drive trekka? great little van, I had one, but I want something newer 🙂
Caddy gear lever is standard car placement

However, it also has a less refined version of this suspension on the rear.

haha
doesn't matter because the bikes are full suss 🙂
but has the gear console I cant stand,
thanks
Nv200 shifters on the dash.
just had a look at some nv200 interiors, looks same as the others to me??
Don't all cars and vans have a centre console like that Caddy these days?! Sounds like you might be after a 2CV.
@tthew
thats what im thinking, not the 2cv lol
just hoping there was something different
