He's coming on as a rider and as of today we've just heard his Sunday football team have folded so we have even more time for peddling. He's shown an interest in entering a race but I'm unsure of what to enter him in. Rides a full suss and loves to rag it hitting jumps etc. What I don't want to do is enter him in to a local British cycling xc race or similar and then get smashed and lose all his confidence. Looking for something based within an hour or two of derby. Any ideas? TIA
Have a look at the PMBA Enduro events, you could even enter with him. Well run and very friendly

Not mtb but the Notts and Derby cyclo cross league will be starting in another month or so, always very friendly and well supported, all the races will be well within an hour of Derby
I was about to say cross races are usually very accessible.
