I currently have a Descente Superlite Gilet, pretty sure it's Pertex, whatever it is, it's ****in lightweight and thin. That's all I want, a cheeky windbreaker for the spring morning commute.

Nothing wrong with my current one, except that I've had a particularly energetic winter and it's pretty damn baggy!

reccomendations?

The Mavics look lovely, but £70-£90 quid for a Gilet? really?

Sounds as if you'e after something like Montane slipstream. The only thing lighter is a binbag, and they're reasonably priced in comparison to a mavic one.

Lusso at £20, bit basic and boxy cut but OK for MTB ing in; however far better fit and performance from Assos Lightweight gilet, very breathable, good fit for road use but costly almost to extreme unless you find one in a sale 🙂

How about a Descente Superlite Gilet but a size smaller?

Gore Phantom Windstopper 2 (showerproof and with removable sleeves)

Seriously? What's lightweight about that? I'm all for spuriously recommending your own gear, and it's a great jacket (I have one), but it does not meet the requirement at all. Not even close.

Gore Countdown gilet, that's an option.
