Im in need of a freehub for a Pro5 as it came with HG and I now need microdrive. So after looking about, took a bit of advice and was directed to here

https://www.merlincycles.com/hope-pro-5-microspline-steel-e-bike-54-poe-12-speed-freehub-289817.html?clickref=1100lBmRnho4&source=PHG&utm_medium=Affiliates&utm_campaign=skimlinks_phg

The only problem is, although I know the part number - HUB558, it now gives me 2 choices, which are ...

1. Shimano/12 speed/HUB558

2. 148mmx12mm/Shimano 12 speed/HUB558-X12

So which one is it. EBike is 12x148 boost(according to spec list).

TBH im confused by the X12 bit. I haven't kept on top of the myriad of differences so although I know what im doing in most maintenance tasks, but these little differences have me lost.

So what is X12 ? is it when you add spacers to pack it out from say 142 to 148, or is it referring to something else.

I think number 2 is bundled with  the X12 end cap used for 148mm dropouts. If you already have the HG driver then you probs already have this part anyway and just swap them over.  Could be wrong though as its certainly not very clear. I recently bought the X12 spacer to use on my new Hope boost hub where i swapped the proprietary Hope freehub body to a HG driver and it worked no problems on a 148mm dropout. Hope has good freehub diagrams with all the parts listed if you want to browse.

This website makes it more clear what you're buying.

One of the great things about Hope is that they pick up the phone and give clear product and technical advice.

So what is X12 ?

Pretty sure it's a type of rear axle but no idea what makes it freehub specific, possibly end caps as already mentioned

I think ive got it 🤨

I'l be ordering the 2nd option, the X12 one.

Even if its just a case of the X12 coming with a spacer and washer thing, they're the same price, and if the drive side spacer gets damaged, ill have a spare.
