My lad is looking at buying himself a second hand Go Pro with his birthday money... Im not upto date with all the new Go Pro's. So I'm looking for any information on which one to look for and which ones to avoid. He is looking to spend around £200. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I reckon you'd easily get a Hero 7 Black for that sort of money? Try and get one with the image stabilisation.

As above, 7 black would be a good bet as it's the earliest one with image stabilisation, 8 was a bit better if it's in budget.

Otherwise 4 Silver would be the best value for shooting in HD without stabilisation.

Insta 360 Go is 25% off on Amazon.co.uk right now, has stabilisation, looks an absolute bargain

Hmm - was almost pushing the button in the Insta360 myself, the reviews put me off a little, even at that price. It looked brilliant when first advertised (and when Matt Jones was larking about with it)

I'd try and stretch to a Hero 8 over the 7, better image stablisation.

That Insta360 looks pap, doesn't look like it'd be easy to mount in the amount of places you can a gopro.

The upside is there's a lot more scope for variety in the shots. One of those mounted on the bars and you can do a top to bottom run in a single shot and it look interesting. Compared to all the go-pro mounts which have been done to death however good the riding is.

I've just bought an Akaso Brave 7 LE, worth a look as a Go Pro alternative IMHO.

I read in a few places that the 7 was a better bet than the 8. pros of slight improvements of image stabilisation weren't worth cons of battery life and non-replaceable lens cover.

Slight? If you're riding fairly tame tracks maybe but videos like this show the difference when the terrain gets bumpy.

I've got a Sony action camera I mean to put on the classifieds.

I'd be happy to let it go for a lot less than £200

If you can stretch to 8 as a first time buyer, it has Witchcraft stability that will smooth out a rigid fork bike on a very rooty trail.

Check FB Marketplace for bundled deals with a second battery and stuff since GP 9 arrived and people are changing.

Something is off in that comparison of the 7 and the 8, looking at my hero 7 footage its way better than in that video. I've seen refurbed DJI Osmo cameras on Ebay for under 200 they have dual screen and image stabilization.

Grrrr these threads 😆 now I want to buy a hero 9 😆

Can he not sell his current camera, then raid the loft/cellar for old toys and stuff and put any profit to getting something like the 8 new ?
