I'm after something light-ish weight, very breathable and ventilated enough to combat a sweaty back. It doesn't need to be super packable as even an unpackable gilet won't take up that much room.

They seem to range from the basic Montane style up to fancy Gore AS Countdowns - any recommendations out there?

Had a few over the years but this one has been the best:

I have the Gore AS countdown, which replaced an earlier Gore - so I like their prodcuts. Very very thin, so definitely packable, but still robust enough it won't 'just tear' if looked at funny - unlike the xenon which was rizla paper thin (returned for the AS). Though very thin it still totally windproof, and has a mesh panel on the back, so should suit your 'issues'. Though I always wear a pack, so don't know how you'd fair with a mesh back without one (as it obviously not windproof)..

Scott also use Gore's Windproof fabric, and have seen them sold a lot cheaper, if your after a bargain.

I love the endura one.. mesh back, cheap, packable, good cut and typical endura quality

karrimoor from sports direct, £5 bargain.

Not much point in super dooper breathable material in a gillet, there's a big zip fown the front and there's no sleves.

Altura etap from evans, only £25 at the moment.

Got one a few weeks ago, windproof front and mesh back, very light weight and great for keeping your core warm.

I like my Endura one (probably the same as Bedd's), think it's called Laser or something. Cheap, packs small, and just works. Had a Gore one before but found the cut too loose and generally bulky.

The tiny Montane one is ace, for what it is- not as waterproof or well vented as my Altura one but then it's about 1/4 the size. Small enough to just live in my camelbak for most of the year.

Don't know the name of my Altura one, it's pretty decent- made of the React fabric, mesh back too, so not much heat/sweat involved but still very waterproof (except through the mesh back!)

Gilets are fab...

Gore windstopper one here, not sure what kind but its red and I like it.

typical endura quality Surely thats a reason not to buy 😉 I've had two endura gilets, they would be great if the zips didn't stick in the fabric all the ****ing time.
