Anything from Troutie. I've used his light for a couple of years here, in rain, heat, marathon races, etc - no problems, huge brightness. Not cheap, not outrageously expensive, well worth the money.

Troutlite has been faultless and powerful, not a bad word to say

+1 troutlite. Liberator.

All the power and reliability and quality of a bleedin' edge branded product, but about 30% cheaper. (esp with v hi quality smudge batteries)

*TBH its not that much cheaper these days - 6XPG troutlite at £300. 4XPG hope from CRC is £250, 4XPG Exposure £260, 6XPG Exposure but bigger batt from crc is £400. But mine was a good deal cheaper as bought as kit and built by me, rather than ready made from trout. But Lupine is overpriced (a P7 (!) and 5Ah battery for £280 discounted from £350! WT?)

I got one of those little exposure diablo things a couple of years ago, its great for those rides that start light but end dark. I would definitely get another exposure if I needed a bigger light, I like the lack of cables. reliability of cables killed my previous lights

I have both the 'liberator' & a Taiwanese Deal Extreme lamp.

For the price the DE is amazing & many of my cycle friends have since bought the same. (no failures till now).
The Liberator is just brilliant 😉
I'm an expat & people always ask where I got the lamp after they've experienced it....

I'd chose an exposure light over others for the following reasons:

1)The simplicity of having everything in one can, not a separate head unit and battery and wires around the place, battery bag scuff marks and connections to come loose

2) The great QR light bracket, stays on my bike (one on each bike) all year and the light goes on in 2 seconds, always pointing just where I want without having to adjust every time

3) Battery meter, yes some other lights have them, but so so do the exposure and lots don't, 4 level settings; green, amber, red and flashing red and automatically protects the battery

As for which model, well a joystick on the head and then on the bars, for the maximum light, a 6-pack for silly 1800lumnes for mid week blasts with a still crazy bright 10hr setting for long night rides and 24solo summer races. To go super lightweight and/or cheaper, the now updated and venerable MaXx-D is a truly great light and a super partner to the Joystick

Hope that helps! I used to make my own lights but now have a big box of unused lights, that are just as bright as my exposures, as the faff of batteries and head units separate just seems too much now, plus soggy battery bags in the winter and scuff marks on the frame are now a thing of the past. I switched to exposure lights for racing due to weight, QR brackets and easy attachment and removal with perfect alignment every time. They're light too.

Another vote or exposure . Never felt the need to join in the lumen race and do most of my ridin on the lower settigs of my maxx d

And ride with just a joy stick if im out on my todd - only need the lumen arsenal when out with folks thats need the sun to ride in the dark ( daylight ??)

Robs got my reasons in a nut shell !

I use a Dealextreme torch on head and bars- P7 on the bars, XML on the head. Neither light is as good as the best out there, but then the 2 combined cost a fraction of the price of a single "proper" light. 2 lights is much better than one- you get some redundancy in case of crash damage or failure, and you get more usable light. Just ordered a DX XML bike light to try out as it was only about £30.

I'd love a Trout or similiar but can't justify it, not when something so much cheaper does such a good job. Don't really understand why people buy Exposure's overpriced torches though.
