Just pre-ordered a 2018 Genesis Mantle frameset to build into a light xc/trail HT so after a 120mm fork for the front end. It'll mainly be used for trail riding with the occasional XC race thrown in, so weight is a minor concern but not the end of the world. I've looked at the new Revelation and the Reba, less than 150g difference between the two, would prefer to stick to Rockshox as I can get good deals on them. Really left field option is the new Sid but this is only 100mm and given my plan for the rest of the build is GX Eagle, reverb and high volume but light tyres can't help thinking 100mm would do the bike a disservice. What do you think would suit best?
I'd say the Charger 2 in the SID is worth more than the 20mm extra of the Revs/Reba. Pike?
Just changed the Recon on my Clockwork 29er for a new Reba, 120mm. Spot on.
Yeah,
If weight is a concern the Sid is very good.
But trail suspension you can’t go far wrong with a Reba RL.
I have bought one this year for a plus build and it’s very good.
Pike if you want everything!
Max
I've got used to the stiffness of the Pikes on my FS so went for the new 35mm chassis Revelations on my Chameleon build.
I love my pikes on my FS, but just built up a Whyte 529 with the fox 32's off my old HT and am not looking to replace them with pikes, as I had thought I might. Really don't feel notice any flex and as I want it 'lightish' I'm going to stick with the 32's. So I'd suggest it depends, are you gunna go 'balls out' then get the pikes or new rev's, or just go Reba's if it's to do the miles. SID's for the weight weenies/race bikes..
less than 150g difference
Get the Rev, or save for a Pike.
sh** me missed that bit about the weight, go pike or Rev's then!
I didn't know the new Sid's were 100mm max. I've got a 120mm pair attached to a bike I want to sell/split if you're interested.
