Hi, I fancy trying some flat pedals for trails for a change from spd's, I would like something very grippy solid and cheap...any suggestions please? there are so many about and I haven't got a clue. Cheers!

Been done to death I think, but Superstar Nano tech's (standard version, not through pin ones).

I've had: Ti/Mag v12s, DX30s, Wellgo Mag's, Arial Pros and Nano Tecs, and now have the Superstar Mag Cnc no's which are great. Nanos are (imho) the best for the cash.

Crank Bros 50/50XX
Gussett Slim Jims
Kona Wah Wah

Used all the above with no problems. If your feet are a bit on the small side then DMR V8s are a good, cheap option.

Crank Bros 50/50XX
Gussett Slim Jims

Crank Bros 50/50s, some of the worst "proper" pedals I've ever used. Gusset slim jims, not bad if you can get them for say twenty quid. I did manage to shatter a pair. If you are looking cheap go for wellgos or onza hognesiums or of course v8's.

Straitlines are very good, mega grippy but hardly cheap and the platform doesnt feel very nice. I've got some point ones myself. Best feeling pedal on the market, but hardly cheap either.

Wellgo B54's. Cheap as chips and last for yonks. Wide, grippy pedal. 5050's are utter gash.

If you want light and inexpensive then Wellgo's MG1 is very good. Tough enough for most, excellent grip. But I'm a bit of a convert to these Nanos, they're heavier for the same price but they're just that wee bit thinner and it does seem to make a big difference.

If you're one of the people on here with a bee in their bonnet about Superstar, you can get the exact same pedals from Readytoride, sometimes for less, sometimes for more. You'll get no choice of colours and they don't sell spares though.

Superstar = best value on the market

Burgtec = best on the market

straitline, canfield, pointone etc are all very good.

Think straitline have the most pins, mine are certainly very sharp.

Perhaps have a look at DMR new vault pedal.

I have the nukeproof mag ti pedals, the same as the nano techs, just a lot lighter. mine are 250g for the pair and pleanty strong enough, though I did rip a pin out in the alps. They are lighter then my xtr spds. Will be running burgtec on my dh bike.

If you want cheap go for the nano techs

Er... The Nukeproof pedal is EXACTLY the same as the Superstar ones. The mag ti is the same as the superstar mag lite with a ti axle in it (or the HT mag lite), it just costs £40 more.

The Nuke Proof & Superstar pedals are made by HT components and supplied even cheaper by Ready To Ride Cycles, and if your lucky (like me) they will send you the Ti axeled versions even though I only paid for the steel axeled ones 😉

The price gap does vary, Superstar and Readytoride obviously keep an eye on each other's websites as they go up and down. I got my HT alu nanos for £30 from Readytoride when Superstar dropped their prices, now Superstar are back up and so are Readytoride. Always worth checking both.

That said, Superstar do nice colours.

Currently on my bikes are Canfields, Burgtec and Sunline. Have to say the Burgtec's are the best with the others close behind. Canfields are good but the Burgtecs just feel so solid.

Wellgo Mag 1's.

Light, grippy and despite their material apparently making them a bit fragile, I've not ruined mine in three years of rock rubbing / bashing. normally £35 ish if you shop about.
