Doubtless there is a thread or two on here about them but i only have a couple of hours to appear knowledgable about them...
I'm helping a friend find one in the£1 - £1.5k region. Are there any stand out models in this price range?
Ta for any advice.
Local shop for ease of service sells specialized, so is something to consider...
Ta.

So what is it going to be used for, £1-1.5k looks more like a secondhand price.

Pootling to the shops and stuff. Maybe the odd bit of easy offroad.
I know its not much dough but that's the budget...

Spesh e-bikes start at £2.2k so they kind of blow the budget.

This may need a rethink...

I'd have a look at Decathlon, they are in the price range. I met a guy in France last year who had a pacemaker fitted and liked to get out and about on his bike so he bought a Decathlon with 2 batteries. The day I met him he had ridden 68 kilometres, it was a hybrid and he was chuffed with it.

This is where you are with that kind of money -

It'll still be FUN with a capital F though! 😀

Don't know the current market well enough to advise particular models. Cube worked out well a year ago when looking for similar for someone. Advice - especially when looking at the cheap end so will be tempted........don't go for anything that has a hub motor. front or back. They are really crap. Bottom bracket/ crank mounted only for anything worth owning. Secondly - look at it like an actual bike - the quality of the brakes, the gears, the finishing kit. Is it actually a BSO with a motor attached? Many of the cheap ones are. The cheaper you go the bigger the proportion of the bike's manufacture cost is spent on motor and batteries and the more the bike components are compromised to get it made to a target price. If you would reject a BSO as an actual bike, same goes for an E-BSO.

You’ll struggle to get a decent (motor in the bb, not hub) new one for that price. You’ll pick up a decent 2nd hand a hard tail for that price though. Vitus HT on emtb forum buy/sell section, that would fulfill those requirements (not my ad!)
