I've had a look on DX website but there are too many to choose from.

I'm after a neat torch for usual torch duties but also something I can chuck in my pack on night rides as an emergency backup light.

I looking for something less that £50 if possible.

Dunno about DX, but I've been using a 100 lumens 'Hokus Focus' (Police Tech?) torch (£28 if memory serves) mounted with a two fish lock block mount (£6.50 or so) and apart from the fact it's not rechargeable it's pretty good. (It takes 3 x AAA batteries, so could use rechargeable ones I guess, but their voltage tends to be lower so torch not as bright). Variable beam spread (twisty head) and a single on/off button on the tailcap. No issues with it letting in water. Mounted under the bars, so can still up-end the bike if need be. It's not potent enough for epic stuff on strange trails, but just about ok if you know where you're going, and certainly good enough for commute/emergencies.

I've got this one as a pocket/back-up/camping torch. Plenty bright enough to ride with to get you home, too.

...and this one when I need a bit more light:

Are these DX torches really that bright? 1200 Lumens is a lot of light.

Wheres the catch?

They aren't as bright as claimed, but still pretty bright. Build quality isn't fantastic, but again it's ok. Excellent value for money, a £100 torch from a UK shop is better, but not 5 times better than a dx £20 one, not even twice as good.

They're not 1200 lumens but they're still very bright. TBH when using as a torch, max power is too much most of the time (a wider beam would be more useful both for a torch and a bike light)

If there's still P7 torches knocking around I'd go down that route. It's an inferior emitter but tends to make a more practical light IMO.

Maybe this one? Closest match to my SSCs that I can find (which are excellent torches and decent bike lights)
