I am looking for a cheap road bike to use for riding on days I am not using my MTB. I have a budget of circa £300, and I am considering the following bikes
Calibre Rivelin
Carerra Virtuoso
Bwin 500 (wanted the SE but they only do them in 63cm!)
At the moment I am leaning towards the Rivelin, but are there any better alternatives that I am not thinking of? I have also been looking at second hand bikes but I would prefer new, as I havent seen much secondhand that is great at this pricepoint.
What are your thoughts guys? Help me choose a cheap roadbike!
The bwins get good reviews but for that budget I'd look at 2nd hand despite your reservations. My first road bike picked up off here was a trek with ultegra for 280 notes. Absolutely nothing wrong with it mechanically, weighed around 19lbs and really got me into road biking.
There are always giant defys on sale on here.. There was one the other day for 200 quid albeit with a claris groupset. When I was looking for a mate I found one that was 3 years old with tiagra for 325 quid.

Ie.. Just posted on classifieds
Btwin or something used off here. Still a big Giant Defy fan, you’ll get a well specced alloy Defy.
The defy with claris on here which is m/l looks to still be available for 200 quid. I'm tempted to buy it as a winter bike but it's a bit too big. Put the remainder to some better wheels and you will have a good starter bike.
