I’m looking at upgrading my SS with a nice crank set/bottom bracket, probably looking at around £200 ish.

A mate has just got a Race Face Deus and I was wondering if anyone had any other recommendations? I mostly do “less-aggressive XC” on my SS so weight & strength is probably more of a factor than straight DH orientated strength.

cheers

Middleburn uno seems like a obvious choice if you don't mind going 'old-skool' on your BB (although it'll last 100 times longer than some 'devised in California' External crap)

Or go m952/boone for proper bling

Polish up an XT or XTR chainset and fit one of these.

Is there any reason why I can't use BMX cranks? Presumably they are a different size? Just looks nice and simple set up and plenty strong?

Might struggle to find 'euro' bottom brackets.I run Gusset Pigmy 853's on the 20",you can get an mtb bb for them and they're not too heavy either.Look on the Ison Dist web site. You need arms+axle+bb.
Or dmr chieftans (as was).Actually looking on crc there's quite a few bmx type set ups-not light tho!!!

Another vote for middleburn Uno. simple. Easy. BMX cranks? struggle with BB i reckon. weight maybe an issue (maybe not, dunno if you care about that sort of thing) but they're generally pretty heafty bits of kit
