Cannot get on with SRAM Guide brakes so I'm changing, I'm torn between my go.to brakes of XT, but seen Magura MT5 and TRP Quadium are similar prices and really well reviewed.
Anyone got any experience of these over XT and also know how easy a reverb dropper lever is to integrate with them?
Cheers

I just do t feel like they're as responsive or as easy to give the right amount of power as my XTs. Single finger braking is difficult when on rough terrain so I end up using two fingers on the lever. I also do think there isn't as much power either. That's one reason I fancy the maguras on a 29er as they're supposed to be very powerful

I see mate.

Funnily enough I use RS's on my 29er. I must admit I find them pretty powerful but I'm not very nuanced with my braking.Lol

Are yours Guide R? I found RS/RSC to be far more powerful.
If so, worth seeing if you can find some levers and doing a swap?

Second the above. A set of Guide RS or above might not feel so powerful in the car park as Shimano but on the trail one finger breaking even warp speed to standstill shouldn’t be a problem.

I dallied briefly with a set of Magura MT5 but couldn’t get a lever feel I liked and wasn’t overly impressed with the power delivery as they felt quite wooden.

It was riding in the peaks that I struggled with them. Maybe it's just what you're used to and they don't suit me?

I'd get four-pot Deores if I had to buy a new brakeset today.

Should address your power concerns and reliability reports are good so far (perhaps not the case for XT).

XT's arn't any more powerful than Guides, but they offer considerably more modulation.

If you like the on/off feel of Shimano, then you won't get on with the likes of SRAM/Hope etc as they do feel softer & easier to modulate & control.

This sums up my experience.
I went XT M785's to Hopes and then to I've now got the 4 pot Shimano Deore level one's https://www.bike-discount.de/en/buy/shimano-br-mt501-disc-brake-set-721660?currency=3&delivery_country=190

Absolute bargain

After two sets of XT's failing after 2-3 years and only option was to bin them, I've gone Hope T3 E4 and have been really pleased.

Have found some of the steepest/techy descents I can far better control the bike without locking up. Major factor was ability to strip/repair.

Just coming up to two years and no regrets.

When in a similar boat I bought the Magura Trail Sport brakes (added bonus of a nicer one finger lever) but chickened out having asked for first hand thoughts of Magura brakes on here and the consensus seemed to be great brakes but a pain to set up, small pad to rotor clearance and may be quite noisy. I went with Shimano XT from Merlin for around £145 in the end. Just be warned that they arrive as individual pieces from Merlin so other shops may offer better value if you want the brakes filled and only needing hoses shortened.

these obviously...

how is that Trickstuff can apparently get their brakes so much more powerful than hopes and Shimano?
