You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hello, I have been out of touch on the MTB scene for the last 18 months. My lad races on a Scott RC 24 inch full xt, lovely bike but he could do with 26" wheels. But of course a small and very light frame. Can anyone suggest whats good or indeed if they know of any good deals.
Looking for something new or 2nd hand? I've got a 2004 spesh stumpjumper 15" hardtail going on the classifieds soon if that would be of any use? It's technically a women's bike with a shorter top tube but is dark grey with no girly bits in sight! Shorter top tube might help with the transition from smaller bike? Drop me an email if you think it might be something you're interested in.

Hi, 2nd hand is good being that they grow so quick..
Sorry sent the post without asking some questions what bits does it have and how much you looking for?
Go for the spesh! We have an on one scandal 14" and had a spesh 13.5" rockhopper for our 11 and 9 year old. The scandal is posher and newer than the spesh, but my boys prefer the spesh as its far more comfortable ride. Both have short stem and air forks etc.
We are now replacing the spesh with the 15" version, but an older women's frame (no flowers etc). It as about the same top tube as the 'normal' 13.5" version. The scandal has a long top tube and therefore not so good for kids.
Go for the rockhopper frame offered, you won't regret it. You will be surprised how much your boy will progress on 26" wheels.
Good luck,
Simone
Thanks Moniex thats most helpful, He was quick this year but some kids had x bikes and he struggled on the open sections. So even though the scott rc jn is perfect for his size and age he could do with the bigger wheels.
Key bits of info are that it has 80mm fox float forks, great condition, not been ridden much since they were last serviced. Disk brake upgrade a few years back to shimano LX. Current wheelset is Mavic 717's on LX hubs, though I do have some stans 355s on hope xc6 wheels which I used to race on that are noticably lighter that I'll also be selling. The rest of the kit is functional rather than top notch - LX shifters and front mech, Truvatic firex cranks, XT rear mech but on a Deore cassette. Bars Easton EA50, FSA stem, seatpost spesh own brand. Sounds like if you were interested it might be worth transferring some bits across from the Scott to keep it really light (though it doesn't feel too sluggish in its current state!)
With the 717s I was looking for about £250ish for the bike, don't know whether this is in your target price range. Just to say its a stumpy rather than rockhopper - I replaced my old rockhopper with this as I wanted something lighter and racy!
Hope this helps, I'd send you some pics if you like but can't see your email address?
