Hi!
So I am planning on getting a new bike. I have £1000 to spend and will be mainly using it for trails and XC. If it's any help I'm about 5ft 8.
I've shortlisted these bikes:
Orange Clockwork 120

Whyte 806 Compact

Cube LTD Race 650

Trek Superfly 5

Any of them any good? Which would you choose and why? Are there any others in this price bracket that I have missed and that may be better?
Many thanks
Theo
The Whytes always seem to get good reviews and my mate has one slightly higher up the range and is very happy with it. After a quick search I noticed you can get a 2015 one for £750.
There are semi decent bikes, but from the sounds of it you want a bike that will be a bit more solid and be worth every penny. Lot of these bikes feature a major cost cutting component, e.g. fork or drive chain, or brakes. This means that this component will always leave you wanting more from it. These bikes all seem pretty heavy as well. If I was yo I wou
ld be investing an extra £30 or so and getting the base line Bird Zero TR. It would be an incredibly fun ride and would be nice and light for your money. OK, it would end up being maybe £50 over your budget but in reality this bike is far better than any of the bikes you have looked out. Not only do you get a fantastic ride but Birds customer service is unbelievable good. The base model TR3 is £999, but by the time you have payed postage and chosen your final spec, yes you can tweek what you want and if you are unsure the guys at bird will do a grand job at helping, your final cost will be a little bit over.
Hope this helps.
I like the look of the bird, but my issue is that I will be getting it through a cycle to work scheme, so I need to find a shop that stocks them and is involved in the scheme!
Pretty sure i read somewhere that Bird can do cycle to work.
The Bird is a really good option.
I think this is the other standout alu hardtail at the mo...

CRC do cycle to work, but whether it's compatible with your scheme I dunno
