Hi all, hoping someone who's been in a similar position can help me out with this please.

I'm thinking about a Hamax Caress or a Weeride to attach to the bike. This will finally make family rides come to life!

The problem is which bike to attach them to. We have a Trek 3rd District. It's the wife's single speed. A bit like one of those city bikes, minus the seat rack etc. The alternative is a road bike. But I'm not sure how attaching them will affect the ride or the frame. Does a child seat put the frame under pressure?

I think the Hamax may be the way to go because I've not gotten a response from Weeride about shipping. Anything else I'll need to watch out for?

I have a weeride attached to an alloy Orange 02 and a Hamax seat attached to an old steel Halfords/Carrera pub bike. My thoughts...

The weeride is great and would happily attach it to any bike it will fit. Need to clamp around the headtube/upper cup. As it attaches to the headtube and seat post I can't see it causing any problems (just avoid a carbon post). The weeride gives a much better balanced bike with regards to weight distribution. I've had the lad on the weeride from 9 months, and have done a few blues with him on (not at 9 months). He's over two now and it's getting a bit crowded for long rides as I'm not that tall to reach over/around him.

That's why I stuck a hamax seat we were given on the old steel bike as it gives us both a bit more space. Also the knee out riding position with a weeride wasn't great for long rides. So I have the weeride for short off road rides with him since it is much better balanced, and the hamax for the longer cycle path rides. I expect he'll out grow the weeride fully before the hamax. I wouldn't have wanted to fit the hamax seat to the alloy seat tube on the 02 as I think it would have the potential to cause damage to thin walled alloy tube loading it the way it does.

I'd like a Mac-ride or a LOCT, but the cost 😐

How old/heavy does the child have to be for the Mac-ride? My child is not the biggest in the world! They're sold out, so probably not an option this summer.

I'm thinking about the Hamax as a stop-gap until we can afford a trailer. The problem is figuring out which bike it is ok to attach to. Both our options are fairly lightweight. I saw one person mention the rear triangle deforming over time with the Hamax type seat over time. A bit off putting for me.

Pick up a cheap hack bike from the council tip if you can. I saw one at our local tip a while back with a wee ride already fitted!
Keep the good bikes for what they were designed for. N+1
Also +1 for the wee ride and similar ones, we loved ours

I'd consider that, but lack of space and cash rule that out 🙁

The head tube and seatpost clamped option looks the best bet. Probably doesn't add much more stress than a heavier rider.

If you go for the weeride I'd suggest a bike with a long top tube to give as much space for your knees as possible.
