I have a few days out in Guernsey this summer and will have some time for a bit of riding. Having never taken a bike there I'm not sure if its worth taking the MTB over the Road bike.

There are some lovely cliff paths but as far as I'm aware cycling is not permitted on most of them. So am i better off taking the road bike and doing a couple of laps of the island?

I took my "gravel bike" there in May this year and just ended up doing a couple of road rides. There didn't appear to be MTB routes and where but to be honest I didn't look too hard as was pushed for time. I did a clockwise lap of the island (annoyingly missing the NE corner due to route planning cock up) in about 1 hour 15.

The west and east coast roads are lovely by the way

Just come back and took the mountain bikes.

There is one flat off road path along the western coast for about 10 mile, very scenic but mostly follows the road.

Some section of the coastal path may be doable but some sections have lots of steep steps, so better walked.

However everyone else seemed to be on road or touring bikes.

Guernsey resident here

There are a number of off road routes but they are not always immediately obvious and are generally short sections linked by roads. They are all shared use so need to be careful of walkers / horses I generally head out early am/late pm.

Cliff paths are strictly out of bounds but hoping this may change in the near future. Jersey have opened theirs up.

Coastal path in the north is ok but not very exciting.

Sam or Dan at Adventure cycles might be able to point you in the right direction or happy to show you around if I am on island.

Plenty of nice country lanes for road cycling if thats your thing, just never seen the attraction myself.
