£300 max really for new wheels and need 20mm front and X12 rear hubs.
Assume that a 142 x 12 rear hub is the same as X12?

Was thinking of Hope/Arch as the default ones to go for as hubs can tweeked to whatever and guess the weight is reasonable?

Have seen these HALOS, any feedback on those especially the hub reliability?

Anyone used the WTB i23 rims, any good?

Was quite keen to maybe try a Hope Evo build with Halo Vapour rims but think that would end up more the the Hope Hoops.....

Have a look at the superstar components wheel builder. I'm sure you could put something together with Stans Crests for under £300.

Its hard to see by the Hope Hoops, I've a pair with Flow EX's and they've been fab. FWIW I've also a pair of Superstar built BOR rims/Superstar hubs, definitely more XC but I've no faults with the build or service.
