The Stumpy Evo above is great, but it's £2k, rather than £1500. The Carve looks nice, but only 80mm travel - I guess it dipends what you want the bike for?

If it were me, I'd be waiting for the £1300 Lurcher. I doubt it will be beaten for value/quality, and will be very versatile too. Haven't ridden one, but have had a Scandal, which I liked. Spend the change on an angle set and getting the touch points right (or a skills course).

Hmm really fancy the Ali highball in custom dark grey with white decals
Having problems finding some 120mm forks though, any 120mm 29er forks other than fox's at 700+?
I reckon frame plus xt group set from .de and easton bar and stem, shimano wheels, but without forks can be had for circa £1400 Ish

Will be on the phone tomorrow to find out how long it takes to get one.

However if I didnt already have an on-one carbon 456 I would be ordering the new lurcher

Which focus are you looking at for £1500 with XT/XTR? Presumably black forest but can't see XT.

Tempted by Cube Reaction GTC SL or the Canyon as above.

Brant - whats the rest of that spec? Are you seriously doing it?

Yes rebas are good value but fancy some 120mm rather than 100mm. Surprised rockshox don't do 120mm 29ers

Do you really need the extra 20mm? Think it will be sweet with 100mm?

I have been waiting for this bike for a long time can't wait!

Have you tried 120mm on a 29er...it felt more like a 140mm fork to me. Wasn't keen.

Only full Highball bikes for the first three months into the UK and thats 5 weeks away, so frames wont be out until the summer I guess. Shame as I want a custom build and do it myself as thats half the fun.

That changes things for me possibly. Perhaps a Lurcher is now in the cards....better get the sunnies out for the bright green decals.

My Rebas from On One came set to 120mm you just need to pop a spacer in to make them 100mm

The Specialized Carve Pro and the Focus Black Forest 29r 1.0 are both well spec'd bikes but both are from companys that only started making 29ers this year. There are much better bikes out there, yes they may not be as well spec'd as the two named bikes but will definatley ride better.

The Trek (GF Collection)Superfly AL Elite is well worth looking at, "gary fisher" has 10 years on most of the other big bike names in the 29er world. Owned the 2010 Gary Fisher Paragon and loved it.

I ridden the new Whyte 829 a couple of times and even though it's a little on the heavy side, it's unbelievable sure footed. The 1st ride I did on it the weather was terrible, but the bike stayed stuck to the ground. Think thats due to the super slack head angle.

I now ride a Niner M.C.R 29er. Which I'd say isn't as stable as my old GF, but on the longer rides is much much smoother and is easy to manoeuvre.
I also have a Gary Fisher Rig SS, again thanks to GF having sorted the gemometry and bike ride amazingley.

Er.. Specialized have been doing 29ers for a few years now - just not bringing them all over here.
