My wife's 2 year old 900 Lumen £50 light from Hong Kong is playing up so it looks like a replacement is on the cards. I've also seen reports of the charger catching fire on this type of light so thinking of avoiding cheap this time.

I've had good reliable service from a Hope Vision 4 so currently thinking Hope R4 Standard as a replacement for the 'from Hong Kong' light.
The Hope R4 is £215 on Merlin with £17 discount at basket.

Anything else worth considering for upto 2 hr night rides?

Having been out riding last night with me using a Gloworm x2 and the bloke with me using an R4 we both agreed that the Gloworm was a.) brighter and b.) had much more usable light. I work for a company with a Hope account so I'd get the Hope at trade but still chose to go for the Gloworm instead.

happy with my Gloworm. Not quite as powerful as my Lumicycle XPG but then it is quite a bit cheaper. Lumi do clearance deals so you may get one for near £200.

Really? After 2 years use your gunna start panicing about one or two isolated instances? Apple, dell, sony and even lumicycle have had problems with kit catching fire.. you going to avoid them too?

Inton off ebay (bar only light - cheap and better MJ880)
Fluient 2000 off ebay (bar only light)
Glow-worm from Neninja
or Luminator off Smudge

Dickie, send me the battery as that will be the more likely problem, I can fix or sell you a replacement a lot cheaper than £200.

Charger wise, dont you think being over 2 years old you would have found out by now?

Please feel free to email if your interested.

Smudge

You should consider one of these if he gets them back in stock.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3000-Lumen-Fluxient-3x-XM-L-U2-with-solid-swivel-mount-brightest-on-the-market-/290750248045?pt=UK_SportsLeisure_Cycling_Bike_Lights&hash=item43b210b46d

A very bright light that does run for 2hrs on max ( i know as i've done it several times ), 2 year guarantee and you get to trouser 60 quid. A win, win.

I've just bought an MJ880. Not had chance to "field test" it yet but seems good and very bright. They've done away with the useless functions (strobe,SOS)on the old light and just have 2 buttons to adjust brightness x4. Much more stable on the bars than old Magicshines, battery is a fair sized unit though
