You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Having done over 400 miles on my eBike, primarily in sloppy conditions, I’m gearing up for the inevitable chain replacement. The hard part is choosing which one...
it came with a Shimano SLX chain, is it worth spending more on an XT chain or a KMC chain?
I do like the ease of fitting the KMC...
Depends what you want from your chain. If the SLX made you happy with it’s shifting and you don’t want to save a few grams then maybe not.
Personally I tend to go for the KMC x11 but do have an EL on one bike. I wouldn’t normally spend the extra on a wonder chain but might well go for the XT level. Also depends how often you plan to change.
KMC all day long for me, very durable
My ebike came with the KMC X11E which is ebike specific. It has done 290 km (but as you know won't be going any further for a while), it is getting close to 0.75 on the checker and as they seem in short supply and cost north of £30 (athleteshop have them for a good price but want £9 delivery!) I'm not sure I'd have another. Might be tempted to go cheap and cheerful looking at the rate ebikes seem to burn through them
KMC for durability over the rest but I don't know about ebikes and if they really need special chains. As said they do an ebike chain also.
The gold coloured KMC one - longevity with a bit of tasteful lustre.
Has anyone used Wipperman chains?
yep, wipperman are good too. That or KMC is what I use.
