We spent the late morning and early afternoon in the peaks. Plenty of walkers, their kids, dogs, grandparents etc

and about 3 other people on mountain bikes.

I haven’t ridden in the peak for years but I remember it being much busier.

do folk just go to trail centres now?

Too rough from the night before for many at a guess.

I made it out on the ebike, but only Stanton Moor. Randomly caught a mate up who was on his own ride and we joined up for the rest of the ride. The moor was as busy as it ever gets with walkers, but didn't see any other bikers - but then that's not unusual

I rode around Blacka and Houndkirk today. Many walkers but only saw half a dozen riders in a 20km ride.

A record 7 out with Ampthill mountain bikers this morning. Not sure anyone came from the Peak though

Hah, I actually managed to have an argument with myself about E-bikes without anyone else having to get involved. It’s like a service to the community.

We were out but not in the Peak. Tend to avoid it at weekends as parking can be interesting.

Not the hero we want, but the one we need.

Finally clearing a maintenance backlog of my older son's broken hack/school bike, my main bike's filthy drivetrain and chopping lumps out of some brand new mudguards to make them fit the gravel bike - the latter still needs some further mods to reinforce the back and sort out the bit ahead of the fork. 🫣

Only two of us out on the club meet today.

Met the angriest dog walker you could possibly encounter, but everything gets back to normal tomorrow.

Aren’t angry dog walkers the normal?

I was making the most of the nice weather in the Lakes to walk the dog with my mum.

*but would have been nice to get out on the bike too…

To be fair it was very nice to finally have a day of sunshine after what seems like weeks of rain.

did have to wade through a stream that isn’t usually there though!

I was doing domestics today as I have achy legs (DOMs) from last ride, but spent a lot of time looking out the window wishing I was riding :/

Back to training Wednesday and only getting a couple of days off each week now, bites fingernails as in the year of my big ride and only 5 months more to train in (yikes)

Saw a fair amount of roadies out and about, think a lot of people park their MTB for the winter.

Given the weather I’m staying away so the trails don’t get destroyed

I was at work.. was out Sunday though.

And actually what chrismac says.. we did a fairly weatherproof route but the rain has been relentless and there is loads of stuff that just isn’t worth doing at the mo.

You see more walkers because of the speed difference (You catch up and pass more people on foot per ride). With cyclists the either have to be coming the other way or significantly slower (or faster) than you if they are travelling the same direction.

You get that affect in trail centres too. Rammed carpark loads of people on bikes at the bottom then they all disappear. Obviously in my case because I am bloody fast not, I repeat not, because I only got as far as the cafe.

On the road.

I took one shortcut onto a gravel route that's usually well-drained and was just touching the surface of the water with the soles of my boots a few times.

I (mostly) remembered where the bigger holes were

Grinding their teeth while being dragged along on the once yearly walk by their in-laws, fat wives and mithering kids? That seemed to be the popular choice on my ride yesterday.

Was going to go out on the bike, but the weather dawned nice and my wife made the mistake of getting up early enough for me to suggest we go for a walk around Ladybower instead. So that's what we did. Saw quite a few e-bikers and MTB'ers and folks on rentals and kids on Xmas pressies...

I was out on the road on the CX bike with slick tyres. Still did some muddy off road but got filthy over the 50 miles. Even roads are a mess never mind off road.

Walked over Froggatt Edge on the 27th. Saw one (E bike?) tyre track. The amount of water up there moving around was incredible and fascinating to watch but I wouldn't have fancied it on the bike.

Yesterday I was driving back down the M6 after a weekend in the Dales with my parents. We went for a walk before setting off and:
- A lot of the roman roads / tracks were flooded.
- The softer ground was so wet the water was running off/through it.
So even if I'd had my bike with me I'd only have a choice between trashing the bike or trashing the trails.

It was also raining from Cheshire onwards.

REALY RAINING. Wipers on constant, motorway slowed to ~55mph the whole way, with a good hour in the middle with the wipers on "super ravey disco fast" somewhere through Warwickshire/Oxfordshire. Nope, I'd not have been biking in that even if I'd not had to drive home!

+1 , "busy" usually means seeing about 4 people on bikes all day, even at Swinley which attracts a mixed bag with bigger speed differentials and has more crossing points in the route.
