Going to Fort bill world cup this weekend, and want to take a newbie mountain biking - any ideas where to go (that has hire bikes), north of the central belt? I'm driving from Edinburgh. Thought of Laggan, though not sure they are operational any more.

How about hiring a bike in fort william and exploring some of the trails around nevis range that will still be open?

Aviemore's not too far from Laggan.

Bothy Bikes does hire...

What sort of noob? New to bikes? Totally new to mountain biking? Laggan's probably not a good option for a novice tbh.

We did a loop from Fort William along the west highland way as far as general wade's road then back up the tarmac, and around cow hill... Lovely ride, nothing very tricky or too physically demanding but good views etc.
