Hi there. I was looking for suggestions on where to sell a fairly high end road bike.

I’m used to selling mountain bikes and have used the usual Pink Bike/Singletrack classifieds successfully numerous times but was wondering where else to try?

I have also used eBay a fair bit before but because of the value was keen to avoid seller fees etc.

Cheers.

Local FB group?

We have a FB group for buying / selling bikes / parts locally.

A mate of mine goes through high end road bikes regularly and gets them resold through a good local shop - they get his custom on the new one and take a fee for selling the old one on. Seems to get surprisingly good money for them too.

eBay will probably get the best price so just add the 13% to cover the fees. Plus they do special offers on fees all the time.
The biggest factor I've found is whether you're prepared to post the bike. That always increases the price you get.

I know you’ve said you don’t use it but Facebook marketplace and groups are probs your best bet. 90% of the stuff I’ve sold in the past few years has sold through it - marketplace is literally the only reason I’ve not deleted it myself.

I used we buy cycle to sell my Cervelo the other week. Great service and didn’t haggle on the price. I dropped the bike off and they transferred the money no problem

https://webuycycle.co.uk/

It’s worth dropped them an email

Worth getting a quote here too: Cycle Exchange

Thanks for the suggestions. I did submit an enquiry to Cycle Exchange (similar to we buy bike) as it did seem like a low effort option but their quote was laughable (even taking their overheads and potential margin into account).

Will give the other one a go though.

Not much of a stealth ad if I don’t give any specifics about the bike. 👍🏻

How high are we taking here? Cycle Exchange want Dura Ace or Di2 Ultegra, premium carbon, custom or high-end (e.g., Colnago, Rourke) steel or known-brand (e.g. Moots, Merlin, not no-name) titanium.

I'd just post it here.

New equivalent model for 2022 (which is identical other than paint job) is 11.5k

Wasn’t trying to sell it here. Was genuinely just trying g to see if there was anywhere I hadn't thought of…

Goodness, we do this every time. Yes it is. If you'd given any specifics about the bike then it would just be an ad.

🙄

Sold most of mine on Gumtree to be honest. Generally in the £4k to £9k price range.
Never had any issues. Get the odd low ball offer but generally just ignore those. Always sold relatively quickly as well.

Interesting. I had sort of dismissed gumtree for this sort of bike but I suppose it’s a good way to keep things local and avoid having to courier it.

Will go with that I think. Cheers.

Have you tried the Ducati dealer you bought it from?

Thanks but I’m not on Facebook.

Just set up an account, realistically with something that niche you're going to have to put it in places with massive reach to find a potential buyer.

I have also used eBay a fair bit before but because of the value was keen to avoid seller fees etc.

You could always stick it on as a buy it now at what you think is a fair price + the fees.

Then when someone comes to looks at it, they can offer that percent less and you just go back and delete the listing.

And if someone just buys it, you're no worse off than you expected.

Biggest audience will be on marketplace, then eBay.

Not if they have emailed you asking to come and take a look at it as that activity gets tracked.

Agree. Wait for a special offer, such as 805 off a day or so ago and fees will be much reduced.
I can never be bother to post a bike so price accordingly as the market is smaller although people have driven 100 miles to pick them up due to the lower price.

If it is that expensive, I'd imagine you're looking for £4K to £7K or there abouts - assuming it's not 20 years old.

For that, I'd put it up on ebay and offer free delivery within say 200 miles. Always goes down well when you make a large ish drive and in the bigger picture, £70 or so fuel and a day out is a small price for such an expensive sale.

Have been burnt a couple of times on FB marketplace and a cycling specific private group, so it pays to be careful whatever you do.

I recently sold my Ti road bike - I don't use FB so just asked a mate to advertise it on his local group, sold at the price i wanted within 3 days.

Also advertised on the LFGSS classified section, however most people are looking for a bargain on there so anything above 3k is probably not going to get much interest.
