Evening all,
We're off to the Shropshire side of Mid-Wales for a family break, so I was hoping people could recommend some riding?
I'll have the kids with me (13, 10 & 8), so more looking for a trail centre type environment rather than a natural XC epic. They're comfortable with the likes of the reds at Swinley, Bedgebury and FOD, but definitely not looking for anything full on DH/Freeride!
Hopton and Church Stretton both have waymarked trails.
Eastridge Woods trails look worth a go too (still on my to do list).
Eastridge is still a bit of a mess from harvesting iirc.....and pretty full on rock'n'root fest (ie awesomes).

This is what I was about to say. A couple of the climbs are reasonably brutal too.
Just to add a little bit more to this, we're actually staying just west of Newtown in Powys, and happy to drive an hour or so each way, maybe a little more for somewhere really worthwhile. Does that put us within range of any of the big Welsh centres?
I'd have thought Nant yr Arian would only be an hour or so from there and Coed y Brenin not much more. Both well worth a visit.
Both Nant and CYB are definitely within reach.
Looking at those, does anyone know how a red at Nant or Coed compares to something like the Swinley or Bedgebury red? I'm guessing they're a fair step up?
I'm wondering if the blue at Coed might be the best bet? Would that be similar to what the kids are used to?
CYB will be best bet for a day out. The Blue there is fantastic and your kids will love it. The skills area is excellent too. Going onto the reds will be a fairly big step up, but they can progress and you can see how they do. Rocks and climbs being the biggest obstacles. They also have Go Ape plus great shop and cafe.
NyA is good too, probably not as tough as CYB Reds in terms of difficulty. Not so many trails, but you can watch the Red Kites being fed and has good views.
Thanks everyone!
CYB is about 90 minutes to NyA's hour, but might be the best bet by the sound of it.
Definitely more to do at CYB for kids.
NyA is good, but some trails are closed at the moment.
Great BMX pump track in Craven Arms if you're over that way. Just behind the community centre, my 10yo son and i often spend a couple of hours on there. We both love it at Hopton Red, takes us about two hours to get around and he loves the dh bits. BIG climb in the middle, but well worth it for the downs which he rides comfortably on his Beinn 24.
We also have great trails in Mortimer Forest just outside Ludlow. Well worth a visit. Lots of fun, plenty of places to grab food and if we're here we'd be happy to show you around. Email in profile.
@cakefest, thanks a lot for that offer. Sorry I've not checked in more recently to see it! I'll drop you an email. 🙂
