We're going to BPW in a couple of weeks to meet up with a couple of friends for the weekend and then afterwards we have about 10days to work our way slowly back up home to Ayrshire.

So far the plan is BPW for 2 days, Snowdon at some point and then something else & looking for suggestions please. We're in the camper so are flexible.

Would like a couple of big rides, up a quieter mountain than Snowdon? Not necessarily in Wales.
Decent trail centres?
Maybe something in the Peak District?
Maybe something in the Lakes?

We'll have ebikes with us so no hike a bike but don't mind pushing for a bit.

Looking forward to what you all come up with.

Thanks 🙂

England...but I suspect that isn't the answer you are looking for but it is between both locations. 😉

If you are going that far, how about Dyfi too? And if you like steep and seen as you are on eebs, the Wrekin is great.

If you can get guides, Wharncliffe and Calderdale are really good, Bingley area too.

Also great riding over Greenfield way.

And the peaks has plenty of choice for a good days riding with some wild stuff around Ladybower.

It would be a shame to miss out a day or two in the FoD.

Cheers, will take a look. Have considered Dyfi but not sure if it's a bit too hardcore? 😮

On the list cheers 🙂

Thanks, I was hoping for something more specific 😀

I'd add Llandegla to the list. Oh the Long Mynd in Shropshire is good as well.

South Wales > Shropshire > North Wales > Lakes > Home

You'll have to read up on eeb-friendly Lakes routes, but I've seen people up Helvellyn on them.

Don't bother with Llandegla, its absolute crap. They've slowly but surely ruined any decent trail there with mind blowing stupid and baffling changes and even though there are one or two new trails opening there soon(tomorrow?) there is far better riding to be had in North Wales. Coed Y brenin, Pen Machno being two places. Bucket loads of natural XC routes as well if thats your game.

Coming from the excellent BPW to Llandegla will be a huge let down and you'll ask yourself why you bothered. Loads of great trails in Wales that wipe the floor with Llandegla. That place needs a serious over haul and people who actually know how to build trails.

Thanks, I think I have Long Mynd / Shropshire route from one of the STW Classic Rides to look at 🙂

@jhinwxm not a fan then?!

If you go to Llandegla(I wouldn't) do the masts descent and Worlds End then loop back into Degla and carry on. Dyfi is great fun just stay off the blacks if you don't like techy death! Drum mountain near Conwy is a good blast pretty much summit back to sea level and an eeb would save the huge grind up.

Deffo stop off in The Lakes.

Both Skiddaw and Helvellyn (up via Keppel Cove) would be very e-bike friendly if you want big mountain stuff. Bash is always fun and with the motors extending it is a reasonable option.

I'm local, so possibly a bit of I'm bored of it now as I've ridden it for about 15 years and not a lot has changed bar them cutting trees down. Then during and after covid they used the time to repair and update some trails which resulted in them ruining trails such as B-Line by putting huge jumps in that probably only 10% of riders will appreciate and the rest just left thinking WTF did you do that for. I get some people want big jump lines, so why not build a specific trail for that instead of ruining what was a perfectly good trail, that had decent sized table tops on anyway?! Made zero sense and annoyed a lot of people. From recent experience its no where near as busy as it used to be.

Then they put the car park fees up to ridiculous prices and they charge per person in the car now which is just pure greed and money grabbing, when you consider how little extra is offered (two new trails opened today btw (short trails)but still a stretch to ramp up the prices as they did).

They then have the bare faced cheek to moan at people parking on the road leading up to it (i never have btw) or parking at the boards by worlds end and coming in from that way - which by the way is what you should do if you do visit and absolutely do as Marin suggested and do a loop over Worlds end first or do just that, its excellent, but I wouldn't advise doing on a weekend as it will be busy with grumpy entitled walkers who think they own the land.

Pen Machno is a far better trail and experience as it takes you out into the remote areas and is only about 1 hour away from Llandegla. Could do some at Coed Y brenin too. Both far far better places to ride.

As someone who makes at least one trip down from Ayrshire to Wales each year I would just stay down there for the duration. Plenty trails down South Wales and then if you are heading to Snowdon maybe try stuff at Coed-y-Brenin, Pemmachno, Marin - the Pont Scethin loop would be possible on eebs (clockwise).

Come home and start planning a second trip to the Lakes.

Has no one mentioned Cadair Idris yet? Rideable to the top and you could tie in with Dyfi, Pont scethin, CyB etc

More or less true, but the ride down is huge percentage dull fireroad though. Would love to drop down the footpath at some point to the north. That would make a brilliant route.

Pont Scethin is a good shout, could do it both ways on a eeb.

Cadair would be nice on an eeb IMO, there's not as much fireroad as you might remember. Less of a let-down than the sanitised Telegraph Valley for sure.

In South Wales, I'd suggest Risca bike park (from Cwmcarn TC) and Barry Sidings next to Pontypridd (great trails, mostly on the more techy side). Both would be awesome with some pedal assist.

Surprised no one has mentioned Whinlatter (unless I missed it). That would be fantastic on an e-bike and there's plenty of off piste as well. It's only a couple of hours or so from Ayrshire. There's Gwydyr Mawr and Gwydyr Bach by Llanwrst (Snowdonia area) that is well worth a visit. Pen Machno has probably the wettest trails in the UK, so something to think about. If you are around that area, Antur Stiniog is fantastic as they have trails graded from Green to Double Black and the uplift is rapid. I can only echo what has previously been said about Dyfi. With the the closure of Revs, it probably stands alone now as the best place to uplift in the UK.

So far 2 days done at BPW. My mate ended up in hospital after about an hour on the first morning, which wasn’t ideal. Broken wrist, finger & elbow.
Meant day 2 was ridden pretty tentatively by the other 3 of us, I’ll have to go back.

Rode the STW ride around Hay on Wye today, a couple of fun bits but an awful slog through claggy mud. Glad I had the e-bike. Disappointing tbh.

Might go to Long Mynd tomorrow but worried about the same kind of disappointment, might just head up to Snowdonia instead.

Long Mynd was running quite dry 10 days ago. It’s not in any way technical, but quite good fun all the same.

I’d recommend Dyfi. Great trails.

https://www.wunderground.com/wundermap?lat=53.045&lon=-3.57&zoom=8&radar=1&wxstn=0 (activate weather stations top left of screen and then choose which data you want to see) suggests lots of North Wales missed the biblical storms today, that caused mayhem between the south west of England and London.

If Wales had weather like mainland Europe, it would be a Mecca for cyclists worldwide.

The ~2 mile private road climb to Stwlan Dam is a cracker for views.

Lovely and rugged on the exposed moors by Brenig and Alwen reservoirs (former near the top of the ~7 mile, quiet B-road from Denbigh known as "Road To Hell" Simon Warren's #89).

Not sure how much of it we’d be able to ride, isn’t it a bit of another level?

Dyfi has some great flowy trails all rollable and some mental ones I just followed my mate down with quite a bit of holy cow expletives, great fun, been too long since I've been to BPW to compare.

Has Tebay been suggested? Might not be right in the middle of between Scotland and Wales, but there are apparently some great trails right from the car park...

Long Mynd is a nice place for a relaxed days riding. Otherwise, Lakes all the way, you could do half a dozen days and barely scratch the surface. Helvellyn would be a good choice for a bigger hill, a lot of it will be rideable up on an ebike.

If you do the Long Mynd make sure you do the Minton Batch descent. There are some great cheeky ridgeline descents up there too. Plenty more in Shropshire too. Hopton, Bucknell, Eastridge, Mortimer, Bringewood etc.

If you're doing long mynd on Eebs as long as you have the range do Eastridge too. Its not far.

The Long Causeway, Cant Clough Reservoir and Hurst Woods loop | mountain bike ride | Komoot

This a great loop around the reservoirs and heathlands of Hebden and Tod, and you can drop into the Singletrack Corporate World HQ while you're there.

Would like a couple of big rides, up a quieter mountain than Snowdon? Not necessarily in Wales

As above Cadair Idris would be my choice any day over Snowdon, although even Cadair can get busy these days, but you will not see anyone for the first 80% of the ride. Yes the decent may be land rover track ish, but that gnar isnt why people tend to ride up big mountains. Great views from the summit ridge.

Consider Cadair, but I would miss out Wales/Shropshire and head to the Lakes.

We’re going to head to the lakes on a separate trip.

Currently parked in Church Stretton, going to go out for an hour or so this afternoon and a bit of a longer one tomorrow.

Then Cadair on Friday. Or Saturday but would it be too busy?

No definitely not in my experience. The BW up and down will be empty. It just when you get up on to the top ridge there will be walkers, but even then not many (compared with Snowdon/Lakes)  Go on Friday and take some time to watch the aircraft in the Mach Loop

What about the Climachx trail in Dyfi too as option (not part of Dyfi Bike Park) Ive not ridden it myself but people I know have and said its ok.

Natural Resources Wales / Dyfi Forest - Ceinws (Climachx), near Machynlleth

I would rather spend 2 days over that way than Church Stretton. Not far from a great coast line too with Aberdyfi (Fish & Chips) and nice beaches heading towards Tywyn. Call in at the George III on the Mawddach Estuary for a pint and ride to Barmouth and back. A completely flat trail, but stunning scenery.
