Hi!
I know this is a weird question but... I'm looking for a Mavic Ksyrium wheelset.
I want the clincher type (with inner tube) and on-rim braking.
I've scoured the net but they all seem to be sold out. I seen them about a month ago but didn't act fast enough.
Here for example: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/mavic-ksyrium-clincher-wheelset-shimano-wts/
Anyone know any online store which has them?
I'm only finding wheelsets compatible with disc-braking, and/or tubeless rim type.
Thanks!

Pair, but Elite/UST. You can still put tubes in 🙂
https://www.wheelies.co.uk/shop/p112158/Mavic-Ksyrium-Elite-UST-Road-Wheels-2018.aspx
WHAT?! You've lost me. You can put tubes into UST type Mavic wheels??
How does that even work? Surely if UST are designed to be tubeless, then they won't have the rim which keeps the traditional tyres on the rim?
Like, are they officially compatible with putting tubes in them? Or is a sort of workaround?
I don't want to be worried while riding.
Thanks for the replies btw!
Mavic tubeless rims just have a seal over the spoke holes. Same as any tubeless wheels really (even ones with tape).
Got a valve hole, you stick your tube's valve through and mount the tube & tyre like an old school non tubeless wheel.
You could probably ask a question to Mavic tech for the official answer. But I have 2 set of Ksyrium UST wheels (Allroads & Pros) - they both arrived from the suppliers with tyres fitted and tubes in. Plus all the gubbins to run them tubeless if/when needed.
sorry, forgot link -

I think the OP may be confusing "Tubular" and "Tubeless". If the rims are "clincher" then they should be fine with regular tubes and tyres.
EDIT: Actually, not cheaper than Dez's 2nd link
EDIT: Actually, not cheaper than Dez’s 2nd link
Although the ones in Dez's 2nd link look like an older model
Yeah, but my 2nd link is what the OP wanted, rather than Ksyrium Elite, which are a lower spec model 🙂
why not go tubeless? the mavic ones are a doddle to set up & come with valves and sealant. but yes you can add weight & rolling resistance by putting tubes in if you want
Guys, a million apologies for not replying until now!!
My life is a train-wreck. Anyways, back to the wheels....
But I have 2 set of Ksyrium UST wheels (Allroads & Pros) – they both arrived from the suppliers with tyres fitted and tubes in
So I guess that the UST wheels are "Tubeless ready" but are perfectly compatible with the traditional tyre + innertube?
I think the OP may be confusing “Tubular” and “Tubeless”
I think I was yeah. I was under the impression that the UST wheels involved the tyre being glued on xDD
Having used the tyre + inner-tube setup for so long I obviously haven't kept up with current tech.
why not go tubeless
Good question. Should I?
I wanted the clincher type wheels coz it's what I'm used to and what I've been using for years.
But maybe I should just go for the new UST type instead of trying to avoid it? Especially since they're compatible
with inner-tubes anyway.
By the way, I did find another site which sells the older clincher type wheelset.
https://www.cykelpartner.dk/mavic-ksyrium-hjulsaet-inkl-daek-sort-sram-shimano-700x25c_MP8297130.html
It's a random online store in Denmark, selling them for 2899 Danish Kroner
which is 346 pounds, or €389
If I just forget about the older tech and go for the UST, it's a good bit more expensive: €535
https://www.merlincycles.com/mavic-ksyrium-elite-ust-road-wheelset-2018-105672.html
Cheaper here- http://www.primera-sports.com/mavic-ksyrium-ust-wheelset.html (looks like they sold out of the ones on the previous link I gave)
You won't have any problem running tubes with them - with the option to go tubeless when you're ready to buy new tyres.
Should I?
Yep.
Good question. Should I?
Another yes here, I've run tubeless on my mtb's for years, but never really thought to on my road bikes. But last week I converted my winter road bike to tubeless and its made a very noticeable and pleasent difference, can't see why I would go back to tubes on the road now.
@DezB
with the option to go tubeless when you’re ready to buy new tyres.
When I'm ready to buy new tyres. So I presume that means that they come without the special tyres to run tubeless?
I could have sworn I seen product listings which said they include the "Mavic Yksion" tyres.
If I do go for the UST type wheels, is there anything special I need to do to run them with my current tyres and inner-tubes? The valve hole is there already etc etc?
1. Pretty sure the Yksion tyres that come with the wheels are non-UST version. (You see a lot of them for sale for this reason, plus they're not the grippiest of tyres)
2. Yes, valve hole will be there with tubes fitted in the box.
Blimey! Down to £260 (with code) at Evans...
Don't need, don't need, don't need..........................
Pretty sure the Yksion tyres that come with the wheels are non-UST version
So what UST version tyres would you recommend (if and when I get UST tyres of course) ?
plus they’re not the grippiest of tyres
It's funny you say they're not the grippiest of tyres. They get a raving review here:

Blimey! Down to £260 (with code) at Evans…
Yeah but they're selling the gaudy yellow version. The hubs are yellow.
(and they're the Elites which are a lower model)
I'd recommend either Specialized Rubaix 2Blill or Schwalbe S-Ones (or "Ones" whatever they call them now). But if you do a thread search I'm sure there are lots of differing opinions on good road tubeless.
I used the Yksions for a bit, but they weren't very puncture resistant.
The "Elites" are a lower model than the non-Elites? Doens't make sense that surely?
I used the Yksions for a bit, but they weren’t very puncture resistant.
What does you do if you puncture a tubeless tyre? Have a spare tyre instead of a spare inner-tube?
If you puncture a tubeless tyre and it doesn't seal with the sealant, then you just put an inner tube in to get you home. Road tubeless arent as good for repairing as MTB tubeless, but that's possible too.
But you definitely wouldn't carry a spare tyre!
I was looking at buying Ksyrium Elites. There seems to be some confusion on this thread.
To clarify:
There is an entry level Ksyrium (which is the old Ksyrium equipe) . These are circa 1690g and non UST. I have a pair of Equipes, good sturdy wheel but narrow rim profile and not much lighter than the latest Aksiums.
More recently there seems to be a UST version but these seem to have only just appeared .
There is a Ksyrium Elite. Pre 2018 these were non UST but are now UST circa 1550g and supplied with UST tyres and the sealant kit to make them tubeless.
Cheapest deal I have seen on the new UST version was £430 in cycle surgery a couple of weeks back.
There are still some of the pre UST version around and I have seen these on offer for around £350.
The entry level Ksyriums are typically under £300.
Then there is a Ksyrium Pro which is a higher spec than the Elite. I think k this is what Dez B was referring to .
Checked the Evans link above and no stock.
And ref tyres apparently the latest UST wheelsets from Mavic are supplied with UST tyres. Mavic made a big thing about their own tyre tolerances being matched to the rims , and so making them easier and safer to set up tubeless.
Online reviews seem to back this up.
Apparently the Mavic tyres are actually made for them by Hutchinson.
Apparently the Mavic tyres are actually made for them by Hutchinson.
I've always found Hutchinson to be great quality and easy to set up tubeless, so if the wheels are supplied with UST tyres now, that's a good thing. I checked mine and the haven't got the UST badge on them.
Re: punctures - I've had a few in my road tyres and every single one has been fixed by sealant. I don't even carry a tube on my commute (forgot about a year ago and haven't bothered since!).
There are still some of the pre UST version around and I have seen these on offer for around £350.
Where?
So taking for granted that the Mavic UST wheels come with compatible UST Yksion tyres, I presume you also get the sealant kit included??
I'm still undecided between the traditional and tubeless. My last Ksyriums were awesome (which is why I'm buying them again) and lasted for over 10 years.
I suppose getting on the tubeless bandwagon now is a good idea seeing how durable these wheels are. If they're gonna last years and years, they may as well be tubeless which is probably the future for road wheels.
This is pretty good right? Mavic Ksyrium Elite UST, with Yksion tyres, for €480
https://www.bike24.de/1.php?content=8;product=297758;menu=1000,4,123,30;mid%5B21%5D=1
...although now with the "Elite" conversation, I don't know if it's a new model or not.
There ya go - price range on the new ones should give you an idea of where the wheels sit in the range:

I completely agree with this:
I’m still undecided between the traditional and tubeless. My last Ksyriums were awesome (which is why I’m buying them again) and lasted for over 10 years.

If it’s specifically labelled UST it’s the latest version . WTS means wheel tyre system so that will include tyres , sealant , valves too.
In U.K. money that’s around £430. Sounds pretty good to me.
The Aluminium Kysriums are all UST now. Three models in the line up Pro, Elite and base Kysriums. I bought a set of Pros in June for the Alps and was very impressed. I’ve been riding with them on all the time since. My expensive race wheels Cosmic Pro Carbons (non UST) have been gathering dust.
Didnt fancy switching back to clincher tyres and tubes for the winter so nabbed a set of the gaudy yellow hub Elites for £260 from Evans the other day. They came with the Yksion Pro UST tyres fitted with a syringe and container of sealant and a valve core removal tool. So everything you need to get going.
The Elites are 1520 grams so good weight, great tyres and very comfortable running them at 75/70 PSI. Highly recommended.
Hey
Still haven't got around to buying anything yet. No rush really. Still doing my looking around online.
Got a reply back from Mavic the other day:
The UST tubeless wheels can also be used with a traditional clincher and inner-tube set up if you prefer, however they are not as efficient in terms of rolling resistance as when they are set up as a tubeless option.
The wheels when ordered from Mavic.com come with the following:
Tyre sealant syringe
Mavic tyre sealant (rear wheel)
Tubeless rim tape
UST valve and accessories
User guide
BR101 quick releases
If you do purchase a new set of Mavic wheels then we would recommend registering the purchase with Mavic Care, its completely free to do so and only takes a few moments to complete. By doing so you will be covered by an additional 3rd year of warranty and also a crash replacement option should you damage the wheels beyond repair, the Crash Replacement discount is 40% if registered with Mavic Care.
So that's confirmation that they're compatible with the traditional inner-tube system.
About the UST package, I shot them back another email about the sealant. They've got rear-wheel in brackets which seems to suggest that it's not needed/included for the front.
Plus, the Tubeless rim tape - I was under the impression that the Ksyrium rims had a solid outer wall which eliminates the need for any tape at all.
I'll more than likely be going for the UST's now after all I've learned. Just a case of looking around for the best deal (Yksion tyres included for example, etc).
If anyone sees a good offer, gimme a shout on this thread 🙂
