Where to buy Hub Bearings...

Really odd thing going on with my Vision 40 road wheels.

After 2 years and loads of miles, the rear hub was feeling a little rough, so I changed the main hub bearings. Couldn't find the Vision bearing set in stock anywhere, so bought the bearings individually off Amazon.

After a couple of months I noticed several mm of side to side play in the rear wheel, really messing up clean gear shifts. So pulled it apart and the cartridge races had side to side play in them. Assuming I'd cocked up the installation, I replaced them again (using the same ones), making sure there was absolutely zero play and everything was pressed fully in etc. No noticeable wear on the axle, snug fit in the inner bearing cage,

400 km later, about 1mm of side to side play has appeared. There was absolutely zero in the first couple of weeks - checked after every ride.

So I assume, I just bought a pack of crap bearings. Never seen bearings fail in this way in 30+ years of using Cartridge bearings.

Any suggestions of where to try next?

I've used these guys for Enduro bearings in the past, without issue. I've no idea about what makes some bearings better or longer lasting than others, mind. https://www.hendersonbearings.co.uk/cycling/bicycle-bearings.html

Amazon and bearings, there be the issue. Wych Bearings are my choice. You get a 'choice' of varying quality/budget, all much better than some no-name bearings from Amazon.

Kinetic Bike Bearings have been pretty good for me so far.

OK, bought some mid range ones off Henderson Bearings.

Similar price to the ones I bought from Amazon.
