just changed to a 2.5 WT DHF (actual 2.4) and got a minion SS silkworm that has a mega dynaplug in the sidewall touching the rim, think it best to change that..

2.6 Specialized Eliminator F+R for me. Been running then since the (marginally) drier weather from May. Keeping one eye on the forecast is making me tempted to pack the Hillbilly as well just in case..

just sticking with what i normally use, 2.5 DHF exo up front and 2.3 DHR2 DD rear with a liner.
living in the lakes my normal riding is harder on tyres than ard rock

Been set to use my Michelin Enduro F+R this year.  However to reassure myself today I have fitted a 2.6 Magic Mary soft and a Rock razor Super Gravity rear.  Heading out for a big session in FOD tomorrow to confirm my tyre choice.  Likelihood is I’ll bring tyres with me as well just to really try and mess my head up

That’s me sorted then.  Mary 2.6 with Rock Razor SG rear.  Much better than the Michelin’s for transitions.

Michelin wild enduro MagiX/GumX F/R unless very wet when the Conti Baron Projekts will come out. May just have to suck it up for the transitions............never done it before so no idea what they are like but ridden in the dales lots so they can't be that bad can they? Or do you go up Fremmington edge 6 times?

It’s a big day out for sure, well it was last time I did it.  Nothing too tech either or steep so semi slick seems to make sense to me unless it’s wet.

Trying to decide what to buy! Need to replace the DHF WT on the front, it'll either be a like for like or might try a Magic Mary having never used one.

The DD aggressor will be staying on the rear though.

Mary is very good, but quite spiky, can be a bit wandery in the dry. I like the DHR2 as a front, it just seems to work well in more conditions than the dhf.

Mary would be my shout.  The 2.6 variant is a superb tyre...In fact the best I have used.  Will work brilliant at Ard rock which has a mixture of surfaces

So how toughs a Snakeskin compared to an Exo?

Based on my experiences last year, an exo or snakeskin on the back is a recipe for disaster, saw so many people at the bottom of stages mending punctures and they were nearly from the above two tyre casings.

For what it's worth, I had no issues with a 2.4DHR exo on the front and a bontrager se5 on the back, both are pretty stable in the hardpacked turns and brake well, which is predominantly what you need imo for the course. In a bit of willy waving I managed top third in seniors in the main race on that combo and I typically prefer a ploughing straight line when possible.

Any enduro casing on the back is all that's really needed, DD, supergravity, BLCK DMND etc depending on your tyre manufacturer of choice.

Pretty similar, but the snakeskin is more puncturey in the tread face. Neither is very tough though so if you're worried about either of them, teh answer is probably neither

Snakeskin is Ok for the front, wouldn’t use it on the rear if I’m honest

The knackered DHF in question is an Exo which has done a week in both the Pyrenees and Alps with no punctures, though I am a bit of a mincer 🙂 Snakeskin might be the way to go then, thanks.

However, I'd like to try an Assegai but struggling to find them in Exo flavour!

Not Ardrock related but I needed a tougher tyre for a weekend at CYB on the blacks / Antur Stiniog Uplift / Snowdon Ranger path.

I normally run a dhf exo upfront on my fs and an aggressor exo on the back (in summer). I started a thread a few weeks ago before my trip and concluded a WTB trailboss fast / tough casing was a good option for a strong casing / fast rolling tread without costing the earth - to go on the back. Left the exo dhf on the front. Got the WTB for about £28 from CRC and through it was pretty good. No puncture dramas and it didn’t feel like it was dragging or slowing the bike down.

Still in the bike now - even ridden on some mellower trails it seems ok - not sure I can be bothered to swap back to the aggressor at the moment.

I've got Super Gravity Marys on, vert star front, trail star rear. Both have done well over 4 weeks alps riding, the rear in particular is near semi slick. Thinking this should work well.

More or less! About 1400m of climbing on the enduro. Fremmy is about 250m of climbing...

Doesn't look like sustained heavy rain but a few days of thunderstorms that could put a lot of water down

Anyone got a ground report? Last year was dry and dusty. Lot of the UK trails are in condition this year despite a few periods of rain - is it likely to be a mudfest this year? The descents are mostly rocky but I remember a fair bit of time on the tops.

Yes, basically I can be blamed for all of the flooding happening up north currently and this weeks rain storms!  Basically I decided on using a Rock Razor! So as it happens it looks like I may take my Michelin Enduros as well as it could be loose

Something with a bit of bite on the front, something tough with a bit of volume on the rear.

Puncturing early in an enduro takes the shine off yer day, way more than the few seconds a lighter tyre will save.
