Looking at DH bikes for my daughter for next year (depending how she does racing this year....).
Where have all the alloy DH bikes gone?
YT Tues - Carbon only
Canyon Sender - Carbon only
Saracen Myst - Carbon only
GT Fury - Carbon only
Commencal Supreme - Alloy but start at £5k...
Only one I can find is Canyon Torque DH but can't decide if that's more of a freeride/park bike.
Don't want carbon for a youngster as it's more than likely going to get crashed.......
Any others I should be looking at?
Loads of dirt cheap Nukeproof Dissent frames were sold recently, maybe keep an eye out. At one point the alloy size S was down to £425 with shock!

It feels like DH is in an odd place at the moment. Nobody is buying them for casual riding as Enduro bikes have got so good, so the only ones being purchased are people racing, who want the best so carbon makes sense.
Transition tr11, whatever the biggest banshee is, orange 279, there's loads out there.
Your kid doesn't need a new bike though, just buy something cheap second hand

Personally I'd look for something like a secondhand Tues rather than buying new anyway.

TBH alloy is generally cheaper and it's gonna get crashed so would sooner have a dented alloy frame than a cracked carbon one....

Bit leftfield, but I believe Bird do a DH edition of the Aeris 9.
So 180mm rear travel, mullet or full 29 and a dual crown fork of whatever travel (can't remember).
I can vouch for that being a very solid alu frame and low maintenance.

I certainly wouldn't be put off by a carbon DH bike if you can get one at the right price. I've got a Tues carbon which has served me well for a few years and I'd presume I'm a chunk heavier and harder on bikes than your daughter.
I've cracked three alloy bikes. Only had one crack in carbon (rock strike) which was repaired with warranty.

If she's young and light you'll have to get the suspension tuned to her weight anyway so the cost is there anyway. I'd save the money and get a pre-scratched bike.
Okay so put it this way, I got a 2016 YT Tues off these classifieds for a grand at the height of Covid Boom.
It's mint, was apparently bought for a Morzine trip and the 2016 L conformed, geometry-wise, to a 2021 M. I've spent 200 odd quid on a second hand Charge 2 damper and however much for the correct spring.
Would like to say I'd ridden it but I've not so much as put a leg over it. Ever. But that's a long and shit story I won't go into.
Second hand makes a ton of sense especially in odd sizes.

There's a 2016 27.5 YT Tues medium locally that seems to be the same size & geo as the current Canyon torque in small, so might go and have a look at that.
I’ve got a small commencal furious frame in the garage that I’ve been meaning to sell. It’s a 2018 in Matt green. I think I have the shock too but that’ll need a service. I’m willing to sell for £100 plus postage, with the shock as-is, as I’m not going to be doing anything else with it. Then you can have the fun/faff of building it up!

I have a crash repaired 2016 Tues carbon frame for my 13/14yos Whistler bike park bike.
Pervious owner crash bent the alloy e13 cranks which then blew out the carbon seat stays as they rotated through.
It'll be getting a 180mm 38 and a mullet build with a shortened stroke X2
There was a thread a couple of months back about the need for a full DH bike/triple crowns for lighter racers.
I'm in the no need camp, especially when marzochhi now have the 190mm single crown super z with the grip x damper.
There's a carbon front end Fury black and red one on FB MP in small for a £1k if that suits.
I had the model below it same year and it is how do I say well built.
Weeksy has more knowledge though on the Fury as his son raced his

Blazing bikes have 2022 session 9 in all sizes at 30 odd percent off, which seems a decent deal to me.
Tempted by one myself, but if I buy another bike I'm probably going to end up getting divorced....
