Like an idiot I order an 8mm allen key with my new chain rings when I needed a 10mm to remove the cranks

So where is cheap to buy a single allen key

I'm imagining that there is national chain that's amazing for tools that I don't know about

Optimistic aren't I

Or I'm near Milton Keynes, Bedford and Lutons

(But its quite nice here, no really it is)

Independent DIY or tool store are great for bits like this. Can't help in your area but there are two within walking distance of me so I don't think it is a rare thing. Or one of these from the bike shop, handy tool:

Any decent hand-tool shop.
Halfords might sell singles? (Halfords pro hex-keys are fairly good quality)

Don't buy a cheap sh*t one though - I had a cheap hex key open up like a banana and slice a chunk out of my hand while using it to remove a pulley from an alternator a few years back.

I only use good brands now.

Just so you know - High Wycombe has a fantastic tool shop - Isaac Lord. It's just along the road from Cycle Care (a very good bike shop).

Is the OP local to Wycombe, then?

If you're a regular visitor at Cycle Care I'll probably see you in there at some point. We can talk about splitting kindling whilst wearing gloves and all that malarkey, eh...

😉
