Ok, I’ve got a rolling chassis (C456, Revs etc), everything apart from a chainset, that I’m looking to sell on to someone who’s gonna treat it with the respect is deserves. Whilst I never really wanted to part with it, I wanted to pass it on to my Lad, but the Wife makes a great point that he’s just 5yrs old and may never actually be tall enough for it, I’d rather someone enjoyed it rather than it sit in the loft. And it’ll off-set the bike I’m building now I spose. But. I’ve never sold a bike, kids ones aside, so where have STW’ers had the best success? Classifieds, EBay 🥴, Facebook, PinkBike?
Ebay i'm afraid.
I've currently got a bike listed on here and eBay.
I think your wife is right, at 5 he's probably got a long way to go before riding dad's bikes!
Might be worth sourcing a cheap chainset to sell it complete?
What is this "selling bikes" thing? I understand buying bikes, but WTF is with "selling" them? What if you need them again in the future?
Wait for the £1 listing too on eBay 👍
Can I add a subsidiary question.... Is the market gone back down to Pre covid levels ?
I've put a Spec Enduro on Gumtree and had almost no interest at all. When I put my Ibis on in spring there were people queueing up to buy it. ( Perhaps due to the fact I listed it at 500 quid. DOH)
s the market gone back down to Pre covid levels ?
Heck no.
but the Wife makes a great point that he’s just 5yrs old and may never actually be tall enough for it,
where has she got the idea that her son may not share one of the most obvious genetic traits of his father...
Bugger. Hate EBay. So wait for £1 insertion fee. And do people find reserve, buy it now, let it go from zero (don’t like that idea), works?
I need the chainset. It has brakes at least 🙂
I was thinking that anyone who wanted an On One C456 probably has a parts bin for anything it needs.
Just Marie Kondo it.
"Thanks for the fun times goidbye"
Then sell it to absolutely anyone who will give you the money. Who cares what someone does with old shit you aren't using anymore?
Always 99p starting bid
Sold mine on Facebook.
Lot of chancers, but somebody paid what I wanted for it in the end.
FB is good if you have local groups, eg we have a local cycling group, so you're at least advertising to the right people, who don't come back saying 'will you take 73p?'.
Ebay with £1 FVF offer.
And I tend to do a set price, with best offer ticked.
Most of the bikes we have sold this year have gone via Pinkbike. Sold the last one, Enduro, the day before the latest lockdown to a guy who needed one before we locked down.
Not had a problem selling any of them.
Ebay???No facebook marketplace of course.
If your son is 5, he'll fit it in no time. Or it'll feel like no time.
I'm about to build up a bike for my 14 yo with a frame from a bike I bought before I met my wife. She now appreciates this is the first time kids getting bigger isn't going to cost us any money.
Yeah I’m in a few like minded Facebook groups.
I’ll go there then. Hate to part with it as I’ve loved it since I built it. But off-setting the cost of building the Scandal up and someone making use of it is preferable.
Both my Kids love riding but by the time either of them can ride it they’ll both want something more sexy 🙂
FB Marketplace, but filter out the idiots.
OH is selling a 10yo Trek road bike. Nice condition, worth the £150 she's asking any day of the week.
She has had 10+ offers of £100.
Another one was coming today at 5pm for £150, but hasnt turned up, he's since messaged her to say can we meet halfway, as its easier for him! oh, and he wants to pay by paypal too, when the advert clearly says cash on collection, from here, and no offers.
I find people pay more on eBay, so I normally put my Pinkbike price on + the eBay and PayPal fees to make sure I get what I want. Buy It Now, obvs. Pinkbike works as does Facebook Marketplace, but it is SO full of complete knobbers!
Always use here or PB, never not sold anything. Maybe not immediately, but within a month or 2.
FB marketplace (even the MTB specific ones) is a cesspool, so I don’t bother.
Probably get more on eBay but I’ve always found bikes sell pretty well here. Suspect I always slightly under charge but at least I can sort of know they might get a nice new life.
Although recently I sold one on here and then saw it advertised for 25% more than I sold it for. That made me sad. But guess he saw the op and took it!
It’s gone on FB MTB buy & Sell.
I may pop it on here too as I like the idea of “one of us” giving it a home.
If you are really trying to sell, put it in as many places as you can, the more eyes see it, the better. It’s just that more eyes can mean more idiots.
