Tried a search but most posts are several years old….

We picked up an ex fleet Roscoe from BPW at the weekend. It was enough of a bargain that I’m considering a proper respray with decals and clear coat rather than a cheapo powder coat. At the same time, it’s a £600 bike so can’t justify a £600 paint job!

Cambridge based for what it’s worth but obviously I expect postage to be involved

Was gonna recommend JMJ designs but his work starts around £500, worth it though.

Bristol Bike Restorations did a good job on my Marino frame. I had a look recently at a respray for a carbon frame and there’s a £165 surcharge as they need more manual prep work so I was looking at over £500 for a purple candy paint job.

Looks like a hardtail frame in either standard / metallic paint is £290. If you want fancy pearlescent / candy / metal flake paint then £345. It’s extra for painted manufacturer style lettering etc

A couple of picks of the work he did for me:

Before dismissing powder-coating, i'd suggest you take a look at some of the work from Matt at The Powder Shack.

Argos Racing Cycles (Bristol) are good. They've done a couple of frames for me over the years, one a dark to light fade, one just a plain colour.

For a relatively basic functional job, I'd go there again. If I had a top end bike and wanted something truly custom then Fat Creations or Doktor Bobby (the latter did a respray on a friend's road bike and it is stunning!).

But not cheap.

I had my frame powder coated by a framebuidler who only does bikes. It was £140 for the 6 separate bits of a Geometron and it was a mint job. Better than what you see on most factory powder coated bikes.

I'd consider that if I were you. There's really no cheap way to paint a frame unless you can do it yourself. Even then, when you see how much time it takes you'll realise why a good job is so expensive.

Morley brothers in Milton can do powder and paint. Not used them recently but did good things for me over the years.

I had my Charge Plug shot blasted and powder coated by CM Coatings in Hereford. £60 all in for metallic bronze with gloss top coat.

Stunning job.

I had my Solaris frame done at the Powder Shack. From memory it cost £130 all in. He'll also do decals too.

My frame is out of warranty next year so I'm gonna spray it in spring, I wanna challenge myself, I know how to spray, have an empty garage available, gonna put an extractor fan or two in for the 2k clearcoat, I'm gonna buy some rattle cans from kustom canz and an appropriate quality mask to save my lungs, the time consuming bit doesn't bother me, I love spending hours focused on getting something spot on, then standing back and admiring my own work, it's very satisfying.
