As I'm bored out my tiny mind I had a massive garage and loft clearance and came across some brakes ,forks and wheels all which are 26 so I'm thinking to myself let's get a little 26 going.
I didn't realise it would be as hard as this to find a 26 hardtail frame ,straight steerer ,QR rear surely there's loads out there maybe people are more sentimental than I thought ??
So yes this is a bit of a stealth ad for a 26 frame
Would be extremely grateful if anyone could help
Cheers

I have a small Pompetamine frame on ebay at the moment.
(although the Pompetamine will take up to 700c - but you know what I mean!)

Been meaning to get an ad together. I've got Dialled Alpine gathering dust in the shed that I want rid of, 18", orange, meets the other specs you mention.

What size you looking for? I got a medium alloy frame disc or v and a large steel v only frame hat I would probably part with.

Now then...
2 in my shed, one of which used fairly regularly (fs) and one other on the turbo. Recently donated one (fully built rigid single speed slot dropout inbred) to a different gear bikes (formally recycle bikes) in Sheffield as needed to make room for new 29er. Check their website or Facebook they have some nice 90s retro stuff on there too.
Non stealth ad:
Can I interest you in a 17” dialled Prince Albert classic? Lovely bike but not getting used. I’d need you to buy the whole bike though so I don’t end up like you with loads of old bits again!😂
Built up 1x10 xt/slx/zee mix sunrace 11-46, with uturn pikes dropper etc. Arch ex rims, tubeless etc etc
Wanna make me an offer?😉

You can put 26" parts on 27.5, or even a 29 frame. It'll drop the BB a little but not that much and you'll get the benefit of more modern geometry. If you fit a short stem to an old skool frame it feels really short. Straight steerer forks will fit in a tapered head tube. Only real issue is the back axle and that is usually solvable.

That said, plenty of frames on facebook marketplace. Easier to find one locally on there too. Rarely get anything that nice though. I think people who buy nice frames often hold on to them rather than sell them for buttons.

Perhaps because the hype about 27.5" and 29" forced the prices down so much that folk have decided to keep them.

You can put 26″ parts on 27.5, or even a 29 frame.

got a c456 that Ive not retired just yet, when I do I'm seriously considering sticking a 29er fork on it, cx wheels, singlespeedify and giving it a bloody awful paintjob then use it as a stealthily posh hack/shopper bike.

It’s ok stennah I wasn’t really serious 😀
All this lock down bike build fever has made me consider sticking it on eBay though.

+1 to the retro crew. 26″ Bfe is my only bike.

+1 Piglet here.

Speaking of which what would be the correct nomenclature for a 26" hardtail?
Steed, Weapon, Rig, Gnarpoon? Or just Bike?

Just sold a really nice Devinci Dixon carbon cheap, still got the Pace RC41 150mm forks from it with a straight steerer if they are of any interest, and loads of tyres/wheels.

I’ve got a mark 1 Soul in my cellar,
Keep thinking about building it up again but having trouble finding some reasonably priced forks suitable for it 😢
( well that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it 🤔😉)

I still have all my 26 bikes as they have not worn out yet. I love my Whyte e-120 and have no reason to get rid of it. It weighs naff all and still has enough bounce for me. In fact I have an original Turner Burner that I take to the Alps each year and have so much fun on it, especially with an uppy downy post on, that I cannot find a reason to buy a new bike.

Got a sliding dropout steel Voodoo Wanga with a pair of On One rigid forks that I keep thinking about building back up as a SS hack for the winter.

I bought a Shan 26 frame albeit a couple of years ago - transferred a load of bits off an old Enduro, bought a few new bits - cost me around £500 all in

If any of you posters with 26ers up for grabs are near Edinburgh, please let me know 🙂 My brother has a 20 odd year old MTB with fairly recent replacement drivetrain and wheels etc he wants to re-use. Looking for a frame plus fork (so doesn't need to be a straight headtube) that will take 26" QR wheels. Probably 17-18" but if anything crops up I'll double check sizing and his budget 🙂
