How good is it when you find a hidden gem close by to home that you've never ridden before?
I've been aware of some trails relatively local to me which I've never got round to riding. There's no good reason for this I suppose other than it's too easy to stick with what you know, especially if you're short for time on a weekend.
That all changed when some friends rode these other trails and told us how good they are. It didn't take long to get ourselves organised and get over there to see for ourselves. I was back the next week, this time with the GoPro, to rip through the dust once more and I can't wait to get back again!
So, if you've got somewhere near you that you've not yet ridden, mix it up and get over there this weekend. You might just enjoy it! 🙂
Is that Kilburn?
Yup, I've finally broken out of my rut and started looking for unofficial trails round here (NG22) and paths to get to them. Only been very politely told that I wasn't on a bridleway the once, so hopefully my newfound explorer mojo will endure.
It could well be Kilburn!
Nice one, Nick. There’s plenty out there 🙂
It's awesome! We 'found' (OP spotted it from the car on the A19 ages ago and obsessed about it until we found it) a nice little bit of trail last week which lived up to the hype.
Ace trails fo sho. but turn ur Strava off. There's been some run ins and trails destroyed by the FC in there.
Been riding around my area for 15 years. During lockdown find some awesome jumps with everything from small tables to 3m gaps, all within 1km of my house. Thanks to everyone who put effort in building them, when I see someone down there I'll offer to help with maintenance.
El_boufador, I'm sorted on the Strava front but thanks for the heads up. A mate also works in the FC so I'm aware of the problems faced. He's not bothered by the trails but bosses higher up are the ones calling the shots and who don't appear to want to engage with locals, which is a real shame.
Sam, I wonder if those jumps are new and as a result of lockdown. Our local trails have certainly grown in numbers and been revamped over the last twelve months.
We have quite a few good local trails but we recently revisited some that are close to our village. Over the past two years they appear to have turned into a trail paradise, lots of decent length runs, loads of features (including well built jumps, drop-offs and pretty much everything you could want). Not many people use it and I’ve never met so many happy and pleasant walkers. Although I think it helps that it’s very steep and the trails are mostly off the normal footpaths. Happy days 🙂
I love it when it's new stuff at an old place. Like, I know Glentress like the veins on my cock, even built a tiny amount of it, but due to lockdowns and health, I hadn't ridden there for ages. Was down this week and went exploring and some of the the newer stuff which I hadn't ridden before is so damn good
(I was actually having a wee bit of an internal grumble about how beaten up five year plan and b side have got since I last rode 'em so it was double nice to go and ride some lovely fresh stuff)
