I'm 34 not overweight non smoker GSOH all that. Messed up a little double today (tbf I'm surprised I even had a go, not the biggest jumper) and I'm sore as a sore thing this evening. Luckily I was fully padded up, my elbow took the brunt, but my neck, shoulder and back are killing me.
I'm sure I didn't suffer so much after little tumbles back in the day, when did I get so old? And is this it now, or will it get worse?
As much 'luck of the draw' as anything else. I crashed once on my DH at such a speed and such a height I should have been spread over a long distance, not a mark on me, drifted wide and caught the front wheel on a rock on my trial bike at what didn't feel like a big off - 3 weeks in hospital.
I think the pain stays the same, it's be recovery time that changes sadly.

Recovery sucks. I actually went to the physio after my last big crash to help put me back together....
I'm sure it hurts less than at four days after turning 40. 😉
Im 46, didnt do anything and my arm is in a sling due to a inflamed shoulder. At least you know why you hurt.
(Actually mine might have something to do with pitching 3 tonnes of stone for a new trail knowing my shoulder was already playing up).

wait til you're over 50, recovery for minor stuff i shook off in my 20's takes months 🙁
Crashing started hurting when I took up racing BMX at 38. Before that just a few minor grazes I realise when I reflect back on previous crashes.
BMX crashes tend to have a loud bang as my head bounces off the track.

No, no, it will get better, but only if you keep yourself conditioned by crashing frequently. It only seems to be worse because you are way more skillful now than before so you crash less. Solution is to crash more regularly to keep everything calibrated. Keeping up the level of drinking/drugs/parties to the level you achieved in your 20s will help a lot too.

Having recently taken a tumble, I'd say 35.
Previously would have been fine the next day. However I was hobbling about as if I'd had a hip replacement forc3 days.
It's 35 as above. Everything changes - you put on weight, hangovers get worse, everything aches, and crashing really hurts.
Is it Murtagh from Lethal Weapon that frequently says "I'm getting too old for this sh@t"? I took a new build FS out two weeks ago, first ride, crashed, onto my shoulder, yeah that one, the one that always gives me grief the one that sees regular physio treatment. When I got up from the crash I did utter that lethal weapon line. It still hurts now. 44.
35 for me. Always bounced well until that point but the last 4-5 years has been a period of seemingly permanent injury recover.
Hurt my shoulder in a fairly innocuous off last October and it still hurts most days despite well over a grand in various 'specialist' treatments. Latest Chiro course seems to be working well despite the sessions being almost as painful as the original crash!
As a mate said to me: "You don't bounce so well when you get older".
Ligaments and tendons shorten and become less flexible/pliant with age so when you crash the forces don't get absorbed as well. I had a crash last week - there's aches and sprains all over the place! Not just in the impact areas.
I think I stopped bouncing when I hit 30. I fell off my road bike aged about 32 and that really hurt. Fell off a MTB about a year later, hurt just as much.
Invested in pads and fell off last year at 'Ard Rock - didn't hurt quite as much but I mostly rolled over the rocks.
Am not looking forward to my next proper off.
My shoulder is better today, but I've got terrible whiplash and a slight bruise on my hip, it's running joke at home that I never get bruises so even a light bruise for me means I took a whack.
Also, I'm really pleased with my Trailskins elbow pads, that's the second time that elbow has taken a direct hit and left me with nothing more than friction burns. I feel a bit goofy out riding fully padded up but I've been able to cycle to work today so it's definitely been worth it for me.
had a stupid one over the chase about 3weeks back ,hit a divot which had grassed over went straight over the bars and ended up face first in the car park over Brocton side gravel rash and bruised intercostal muscles , took till now for the rash scab to go and the swelling to go down enough to be able to raise my right arm above chest height , I'm 45 now the last time I damaged my ribs /intercostals was in my 30s and was up and about within 5 days ,broke my left ankle when I was 25 took 3mth to heal , took another fall albeit it a bit higher when I was 42 and it took 10mnths a cage drilled into my leg and 3 ops before I could weight it again and still have a bent right leg, so for me 40 was the turning point when minors turned to majors and I need to start being slightly sensible(meh responsibilities ,mortgage ,work,kids ,wife)
Sometime in your mid-thirties you notice the ground getting harder and coming up at you faster. There will be a few compensations along sometime.
Seem to get scars now for stuff which would have healed up completely before - even pedal/shin interface injuries. Basically I'm a raddled old wreck.
Just over a week ago I was (badly) practicing manuals in a car park mid-ride, I went over the back wheel but managed to land on my feet, the bike/pedals however smashed into my calf, didn't break much skin but got a lump the size of an orange. I'm still suffering, the leg has gone yellow/green and aches like shit...and as previously mentioned I don't bruise easily.
Starting to understand why pensioners just die when the break a hip.
